Jen-an hits out, as she gets sick of people feeling sorry for her

Seriously, who you calling a spinster?

‘no one knows what’s going on behind closed doors’

She’s been unable to shirk the “Poor Jen” label since splitting from Brad Pitt in 2005, despite having a stellar career and dating her fair share of undeniably hot men in the interim. But Jennifer Aniston is sick and tired of the narrative, and has now bitten back in the fiercest way possible: by giving a defiant interview – and accompanying killer photo shoot – in which she proves she’s anything but pitiful.

“The misconceptions are ‘Jen can’t keep a man’, ‘Jen refuses to have a baby because she’s selfish and committed to her career’ or that I’m sad and heartbroken,” said the actress last week in a no-holds-barred chat with Instyle magazine. “First, with all due respect, I’m not heartbroken. Those are reckless assumptions. No one knows what’s going on behind closed doors. No one considers how sensitive that might be for my partner and me. They don’t know what I’ve been through medically or emotionally.”

The 49 year old, who broke up with Justin Theroux at the end of last year after two years of marriage, continued to vent against her “childless, spinster” reputation. “There is a pressure on women to be mothers, and if they are not, then they’re deemed damaged goods,” she said. “Maybe my purpose on this planet isn’t to procreate. Maybe I have other things I’m supposed to do? I have worked too hard in this life and this career to be whittled down to a sad, childless human.”

Finally, sticking a middlefingered salute up to her critics, Jen called out the blatant sexism of her “Poor Jen” moniker. She complained, “When a couple breaks up in Hollywood, it’s the woman who is scorned. The woman is left sad and alone. She’s the failure. F that. When was the last time you heard a divorced, childless man referred to as a spinster?”

And then, as if we weren’t pumped up enough, Jen sent our blood pressure soaring with the slightest of hints that yes, she would indeed consider a Friends reunion. “I fantasise about it. It really was the greatest job I ever had,” she teased. “I don’t know what it would look like today, but you never know. So many shows are being successfully rebooted.”
