OK, so obviously we knew she was a mum, but c’mon, we’d never had any actual proof. Which is why we got so excited when Cheryl finally stepped out in public last week with her son Bear, and heat has the photos to prove it. It comes as friends say the singer is ready at long last to introduce her 18 month old to the world – and is hoping to launch herself as a yummy mummy in the process.
“Cheryl’s fiercely protective of Bear and managed to keep him out of the public eye for 18 months, but she realised it couldn’t last,” says an insider close to the singer. “With both his parents being famous, she knew she couldn’t keep him under wraps forever. So, she’s now decided to relax and make the best out of the situation.
“Of course, she would never use Bear to generate publicity, but her friends think it could be a good thing for the public to finally see her softer side as a mother, now that she’s on the verge of making her musical comeback. They even think it could make her more relatable if people can identify with her as a single, working mum.”
Until last week Cheryl, 35, and her ex Liam Payne had only shared tiny glimpses of Bear on social media. We’ve seen his torso, his fingers, and, once, even heard him laugh. But, last week, we finally saw his – wait for it – whole head. Pictured heading to a birthday party at his mum’s BFF Kimberley Walsh’s house, Bear was dressed in a little blue hoodie, with his curly blond locks in a cute top knot. Kimberley – who is mum to sons Bobby, four, and one-year-old Cole – has previously revealed that her boys enjoy regular play dates with Bear.
Insiders say Cheryl is now more relaxed about going out and about
‘She couldn’t keep him under wraps forever’
with Bear since splitting from Liam, 25. The pair announced their separation earlier this summer, after two years together,
and the former One Direction singer – who last week claimed, “I’m single,” despite being pictured several times with model Cairo Dwek – has been extra share-y online since. We’re told, “Liam is not shy. He likes sharing his life with fans, so if he wants to have a day out in public with Bear, then he will, as long as he feels he’s doing what’s best for his son. That was quite a bitter pill for Cheryl to swallow. But Liam says he won’t be taking Bear on the red carpet or anything like that, just doing normal things like taking trips to Hamleys, or the zoo and restaurants for family birthdays.
“He says he doesn’t want his child growing up in a bubble. Cheryl’s friends have told her that what Liam wants is normal, and that it seems reasonable.”
In fact, we’re told the singer has an idea about how to turn the situation to her advantage. “She’s seen how people like Holly Willoughby and Rochelle Humes thrive in the mummy market, without compromising their kids’ privacy,” says the source. “They only show the back of their heads and use child models in their actual adverts. Cheryl’s potentially got access to a huge new fan base out there in the mummy world.
“Being seen out with Bear in public is the first step towards that.”
