We risked a sugar coma by taste testing doughnuts . You’re welcome
We tasted and tested the very best doughnuts out there
Dum Dum Donutterie Galaxy Dough, £2.75 This lightly baked doughnut contained lovely thick vanilla cream, which wasn’t too sweet. Good coverage of icing all round, and perfect for all unicorn lovers!
Borough 22 Turmeric Glaze With Cereal Crumb, £2.50 This vegan doughnut was really dense and not as sweet as we were expecting. Pleasantly, it didn’t taste greasy or fried in any way.
Borough 22 Hazelnut Cacao, £2.50 For something that tastes so naughty, this is surprisingly angelic – vegan dough topped with the closest thing you’ll find to vegan Nutella. Not too sweet, either.
Dunkin’ Donuts Bavarian Crème, £1.60 This looks like a kids’ party on acid and it’s as sweet as you can handle. Soft sponge with a crème filling and marshmallows on top, just in case you need even more sugar.
Krispy Kreme Strawberries & Kreme, £1.90 Delish jam filling, light-as-you-like dough, sweet icing and a crunchy biscuit top. We could eat this one for days.
Tesco Strawberry Iced Ring 4 Pack, £1 This has a super-sickly strawberry topping, which tastes a bit on the synthetic side. But it’s the perfect treat for kids and amazing value.
Crosstown Peanut Butter Berry, £3.50 Really good chew and substance, thanks to a sourdough base. You can tell the blackcurrant jam is made in-house and it works really well with the peanut butter icing. A generous sprinkling of nuts on top gives good crunch. Pretty pricey, but worth the dollar.
Crosstown Lemon-thyme, £3.95 This one is definitely for grownups. The combo of lemon and thyme makes it more of a posh dessert than a calorie-bursting snack.
Dum Dum Donutterie Zebra Cro, £3.75 More a cronut than a doughnut, this has layers of chocolate croissant dough slathered with a light chocolate buttercream. Dangerously easy to devour more.
