Beyoncé & Jay-z’s year of meditating
It’s all thanks to unlikely life guru Ed Sheeran
‘They want to study in order to achieve enlightenment’
They’ve been on the road together since the beginning of June and – let’s face it – things must be starting to grate. Which is why Beyoncé and Jay-z have told friends they’re planning to take a whole year off to relax once their tour finishes in October. And by “relaxing”, we of course mean doing yoga and “achieving enlightenment” in a move inspired by… Ed Sheeran.
“They have big plans,” says an insider close to the superstars, who have been married for ten years and are parents to Blue Ivy, six, and 15-month-old twins Rumi and Sir. “First up, they want to go on a three-month retreat in India with the kids. They have been really interested in meditation for a while, but they want to study transcendental meditation properly, with a view to achieving enlightenment. They got into the idea when they went vegan for a month earlier this year, and started learning about Hindu spirituality and Buddhism.
“They’ve decided to make it a goal to study yoga and fasting with their own Yogi, then they’ll all travel to Africa to spend the rest of the year meditating. Blue Ivy can be home-schooled for a year.”
Bey, 37, recently confessed that her favourite thing to do on a Sunday is to “pray and meditate”. And, earlier this summer, the former Destiny’s Child star posted a picture on Instagram showing her practising with her eldest daughter.
Friends say the couple’s close friend Ed, 27, is behind the plan. In 2015, he announced he was “taking a break” so he could spend the year travelling the world with his fiancée Cherry Seaborn, and gain some perspective. The singer recorded Perfect
Duet with Bey last year, and has been good mates with both her and Jay, 48, for years. Ed once even admitted Jay called him an “alien” during one group hang. But who knew the couple considered him such a guru?
We’re told, “Bey had a long talk with Ed about how his year of travelling and meditating with Cherry changed his life, and was the best thing he ever did. That gave Bey the idea, and she’s excited for her and Jay to finally enjoy their wealth without the added pressures of performing.”
