Coleen’s festive booze ban for wayne

’Tis NOT the season to be merry

-

He has waited all his footballing career to let his hair (transplant) down at Christmas, but Wayne Rooney won’t be able to go as wild as he intended to this year – thanks to a drinking ban put in place by wife Coleen.

After moving to Washington this summer when Wayne signed to DC United, the Rooney family are set to spend Christmas back in Cheshire, thanks to a season break in the US. And while Coleen is looking forward to some quality time with family and friends, she’s also worried Wayne could get up to his old tricks.

“She has put him on a drinking ban and has told him that there will be no wild partying with his old mates back in Manchester. He’s assured her that it’s not going to happen, but she’s heard that too many times before,” our source says.

“Her biggest fear is that Wayne could get himself arrested again and it would cause a huge scandal – she can’t handle that. She knows what Wayne gets like with his mates and after being away for so long, she worries that he might be desperate for a boozy night out.”

In 2017, Wayne was arrested for drink-driving after taking home a woman he’d met on a night out in Cheshire. Coleen was on holiday at the time with their three sons, Kai, nine, Klay, five, and two-year-old Kit, as well as being pregnant with Cass, now eight months old. She decided to forgive Wayne, and the couple have put their troubles behind them as they start a new life in America. However, she’s concerned he’s going to be influenced by his friends now because, although the English football season is in full swing, a lot of his footie mates are retired and have lots of free time to go out.

“Her family and friends have all been really worried for her, but she’s told them she’s fine and is making the best of their new life in the States. Coleen has said she’s genuinely proud of how well Wayne is doing out there and feels he could be turning over a new leaf, as all the American players are a lot more clean-living when they come off the pitch,” our insider adds. “But that’s exactly why she’s worried now, with Wayne being back home with his mates and all the old temptations.

‘she’s worried he could get arrested again’

“She has obviously got her hands full looking after her four boys, but sometimes she feels as though Wayne is like her fifth child. She drives herself mad trying to keep on top of everything.”
