W hatever your preferred name for your lady bits, the chances are you’ve never really given them much thought. But that’s about to change with documentary artist Laura Dodsworth’s deeply intimate and fascinating study – and celebration – of vaginas. Photographing and interviewing 18 women aged between 19 and 77, Laura explores how their vaginas have shaped their lives. Which, on the face of it, sounds a ludicrous overstatement, but obviously is completely true. From their experiences of starting their periods, to grooming their pubes, enduring the trauma of rape and FGM, the enjoyment of orgasms, the trials of childbirth, and the impact of porn, gender, sex and religion, the women discuss it all, making for an unexpectedly moving, powerful and funny show.
