With a massive smile on her face and rocking a white bikini, Selena Gomez looked happy and healthy as she enjoyed a girls-only holiday in Mexico, celebrating her BFF’S engagement. But heat can reveal that her friends are worried there could be trouble on the horizon –in the shape of Hollywood star Zac Efron. While fans got excited last week when the actor followed Selena, 26, on Instagram, everyone else is apparently begging them not to date.
“They’ve been hanging out and talking a lot, and there’s definitely an attraction there,” we’re told. “But they’re both highly addictive personalities who need to avoid temptation in order to stay sober, and a lot of people predict their chemistry is a recipe for disaster.”
Zac, 31, has been in rehab for drug addiction on multiple occasions, but has since turned his life around, while Selena – who suffers from autoimmune disease lupus – was last in treatment in 2018 for depression and anxiety.
“Rehab is something that he and Selena have in common, along with the fact that they’re both former Disney stars who have been through difficult times while trying to shed their squeaky-clean images,” our source tells us. “Being in that position is something that not a lot of people can understand, and it makes sense that they’d bond over it.”
The pair worked together on Bad Neighbours 2 in 2015, but, we’re told, “At the time, it was more of a friendship between them than anything else. Now it looks like it could blossom into something more.”
Which is why friends are so concerned, especially after Selena’s on/off relationship with Justin Bieber ended just a couple of months before last year’s shock proposal to Hailey Baldwin.
We’re told, “Everyone wants her to have some stability in her life. Selena has had a rough couple of years, and all her loved ones want is for her to be happy and healthy. She does well when she’s focusing on herself, and people would prefer it if she took a break from guys entirely. Selena had so many ups and downs with Justin, and no one wants to see her go off the rails completely. But if she gets her heart broken again, there’s a real risk of that happening.” n
