Posh and Becks swear they’re blissfully happy – but are the new PDAS a smokescreen?

She and David really put on a show

- KATE RANDALL

For a couple who have showed rather a lack of PDAS in recent years, David and Victoria Beckham really made up for it last week as they celebrated their 20th wedding anniversary in style.

They started off with a trip to Glastonbury, where they posed for a series of loved-up shots, kissing and hugging in front of onlookers as they partied into the early hours. Days later, they attended daughter Harper’s sports day, where they posted another picture of them hugging. The following day was their anniversary and they both put up a series of pictures from their two decades together and declared their love for each other. But many

online commenters were quick to brand it all “fake”, especially after recent outings where their body language has seemed distant. And heat’s been told all this affection could have had a dose of stage management.

“David and Victoria have had a tough couple of years, and things have been strained between them,” our insider says. “But with such a momentous occasion coming up, Vic was determined to put on a show and prove to people how happy they are. All the posts were her idea and David agreed to it. They both had a really good time at Glastonbury and really let their hair down.

“They were so much more relaxed, which is why there were more loved-up photos than usual.

Everyone knows things are still not perfect for them, but it was so important to make sure they looked like a happy couple.”

During their trip to Glastonbury, the couple were spotted kissing on the dance floor, as they partied at an exclusive DJ set by Nick Grimshaw. Posh even did tequila shots as they got into the true festival spirit. It was in stark contrast to when they last visited Worthy Farm two years ago. David, 44, had gone for the whole weekend and Victoria, 45, arrived on the Sunday, but they had a big bust-up and things looked very frosty between them as they watched Ed Sheeran play from the side of the stage. But we’re told Vic was determined for that to not happen again, so she made sure she was with David at all times.

“Although they’ve been the picture of happiness recently, behind-the-scenes it’s not always the same story,” we’re told. “Vic’s massively paranoid that, as David’s football commitments in Miami get more demanding over the next few years, they could be spending more time apart, and Vic just doesn’t feel comfortable with it. She’s told him that they’ve got to work as a team. It’s part of the reason that she made such a big effort to join him at Glastonbury this year, because Vic has decided that for any big event David is planning to go to, she will try to be with him. It’s taken her a long time to get over that huge row they had there in 2017. There’s no way she would let anything like that happen again, so she’s been making a special effort to sync up their schedules as much as they possibly can.”

While she’s rarely seen out with David’s mates, Vic happily partied with his best friend Dave Gardner, and we’re told she knows she’s going to have to make more of an effort to be part of his life away from her and their four children – Brooklyn, 20, Romeo, 16, Cruz 14, and seven-year-old Harper. “There’s a lot going in their careers and it’s going to involve a hell of a lot of air miles for Vic to keep up with David, but she’s determined to do it for the sake of their marriage, brand, and kids,” our

‘Vic’s massively paranoid about being apart’

insider continues. “She’s already putting in some requests with PRS for David to attend some fashion events with her. And she’s making sure that his assistants give her as much information as possible when it comes to what David is getting up to, as she’s worried what she’s got planned for them could clash with plans he’s got in Miami. She doesn’t want to miss anything, and if there’s going to be a red-carpet or photo opportunity, then she will make a special effort to be there, no matter what is going on. She feels as though she’s got a point to prove. When she looks back at all the issues they’ve had, it usually stems from when she’s neglected David and left him to his own devices.”

However, with David used to having a lot of time on his own due to both their work commitments, friends are worried all this time together could be too much for him. “Some of Vic’s friends are worried that she’s being desperate and clingy, and that David may start to feel a bit suffocated. But she just doesn’t feel as though she can leave him for too long any more,” we’re told. “She really believes that being proactive like this is going to save them as a couple. David publicly said that the marriage can be hard work, and Vic is willing to put in the effort. She’s hoping it will pay off and David will be appreciative, but her close friends are concerned it could end up doing the opposite."

The day after their anniversary, they seemed to be back to their old ways when they put up pictures of them at Versailles, barely touching. So, it looks as if Posh still has a way to go. n
