Is Love Island’s Molly-mae using Tommy Fury for fame? Fans seem to think so

Was she really looking for love in the villa?

- KATIE HOLLOWAY

Molly-mae Hague was the epitome of a blonde bombshell when she strutted into the villa, turning Tommy Fury’s head (not quite 560 degrees, mind). The couple had their highs and lows, going on the inevitable Love Island “journey”, and they quickly became a fan favourite and ended it on a definite high. However, people had trouble trusting Molly-mae’s intentions, with many labelling her “fake” and a “game player”. Now, with the series over, fans believe the 20 year old will dump Tommy after many assumed she took part in the show to raise her profile and win the £50k prize money.

Throughout the show, comments questioning Molly

Mae’s sincerity flooded social media. One fan wrote, “I never bought into this fake relationship… she just wants to win,” while another suggested, “100% she is faking it... she wants as much exposure and money as possible.”

Before entering the villa, Molly-mae – who describes herself as a social influencer – said, “I feel like I’ve done really well for myself… I’ve moved out, got my own flat and grown my Instagram following to over 150k to make it my job.” After just two weeks of being in the villa, her followers had grown to 700k – although a marketing specialist claims around 53 per cent of them were fake “bot” accounts. At the time of writing, she had 2.2million followers. It seems going on one of the most popular shows in the UK can boost your profile – who’d have thought it?

Reports also emerged last week that Molly-mae – who was spotted on a date the week before she flew to Mallorca, and had been seeing Caroline Flack’s ex Bradley Simmonds in February – told a fellow contestant that the thought of kissing Tommy made her feel sick, just days after entering the villa. A source revealed, “Soon after she arrived, she quietly told one of the other Islanders that if Tommy, who liked her from the start, was to kiss her, she would probably be sick. To go from there to a full-blown romance is a hell of a U-turn.”

The insider continued, “From the minute Molly entered the villa, all of the Islanders were asking if she was really there to find love, or if she was just faking it. It wasn’t

just one person, everyone was suspicious of her motives from the outset. So, she did have to field a lot of awkward questions about why she was there.”

When confronted with the accusations during the headlines challenge, Molly Mae was quick to deny she was faking it, and when heat asked fellow participant Amy Hart what the feeling was about Tommy and Molly-mae’s relationship, she was loath to bad mouth her friend, but did say, “I went in there believing everyone was there for love… evidently not.”

The villa source said that the contestants were always suspicious of her true feelings. “Molly never confessed to the others she was playing a game, but she also never managed to convince them that she was there for genuine reasons. The fact that she was so cold to Tommy at first, and then suddenly switched her feelings on, hasn’t done much to dispel the rumour that she is putting it on.” ■
