Oh no! Meghan gets advice from Fergie

And Ange is also ready to take her under her wing

- KATE RANDALL

Falling out of favour with both the public and the royal family is a prospect Meghan Markle has had to deal with in recent weeks, thanks to some reported “divalike” behaviour and strained relationships. And while we’re told she has the full support of husband Prince Harry, there aren’t many people who know what it feels to be in that position. Enter Sarah Ferguson. The former Duchess of York knows exactly what it’s like to be on the receiving end of a public backlash, and being frozen out by some members of “The Firm”. So, naturally, Fergie has offered her support to Meghan, 37– despite still being regarded by some as a royal outcast.

“No one has experienced the highs, lows and scandals of palace

life more than Fergie, and she can’t help but feel for Meghan as she watches everyone criticise her,” says a source. “Fergie’s popped over to Frogmore [Meg and Harry’s Windsor home] several times to hang out with Meghan and give her some gentle guidance in the art of not caring what people think of her. Harry’s fully supportive, and it helps that Meg thinks that Fergie’s a riot.”

Fergie courted controversy while she was married to Prince Andrew in the ’80s and ’90s and wasn’t always popular with her in-laws, thanks to her unruly behaviour. When she split from Andrew – father of her two daughters, Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie – she saw herself cut off from the family and wasn’t invited to official royal events. But the source says she wants to make sure that won’t happen to Meghan and is telling her not to go changing. “When Fergie first met Meghan, she knew they would be kindred spirits. Meghan is very much her own woman, as was Fergie, who continues to march to the beat of her own drum despite having so much criticism heaped on her over the years,” we’re told. “Eugenie had actually known Meghan for a while before she met Harry, and she told her mum that Harry had really met his match. Fergie knew that could spell disaster, given that Meg was marrying into an institution that prefers its members – especially the women – to be seen and rarely heard. But Fergie insists that, out of anyone, Meg stands a real chance of changing fusty palace attitudes – she keeps reminding her that she is Prince Harry’s wife, the mother of his son, and absolutely deserves to be there as much as anyone else.”

But Fergie may have competition when it comes to being Meghan’s NBF – heat has been told that Hollywood royalty Angelina Jolie is keen to befriend the duchess while she spends the summer in London filming her new movie. “They’ve been in touch a few times, and they’ve already made plans to hang out in London when Angie’s filming there later this year,” we’re told. “There’s a huge mutual respect on both sides, and they figure they’ve got what it takes to help each other out on a professional level, as well as socially.”
