Is Cindy jealous of Kaia’s success?
She’s vetoed her teenager’s dream of becoming the next Kylie Jenner
When we were 17, our biggest ambition was probably sneaking into a pub for a WKD, but Kaia Gerber is aiming much higher than that.
Not content with being voted Model Of The Year last year, she now wants to be a super-rich businesswoman like Kylie Jenner and launch her own make-up range. But her mum, supermodel Cindy Crawford, is not down with her teenage daughter’s plans.
“Cindy feels Kaia’s doing well as it is – she has a contract with Yves Saint Laurent, which makes her plenty of money,” an insider tells heat. “Cindy keeps telling her she’s too young to launch her own business, which would
mean the kind of pressure and travel commitments that she couldn’t even imagine.”
Cindy, 53, has over 30 years’ experience of what it’s really like in the celeb world, from the long days to the lack of family time, and we’re told, “Kaia’s a real homebody and Cindy’s not sure if she’s ready for such a huge life change. But Kaia’s friends have suggested her mum could be jealous that she’s becoming more famous than her.”
Last year, Kaia was revealed to have a higher social-media engagement than models/ businesswomen Kendall Jenner and Bella and Gigi Hadid – and the insider says she thinks that this can help her expand her career dreams. But there’s one issue. “Cindy knows her daughter is only happy if she’s travelling with the entire Gerber household whenever her modelling work does take her out of town,” the insider says. “But Cindy can’t commit to travelling with Kaia on a regular basis, because she has her own work commitments. Kaia was pretty furious when Cindy told her that, and suggested that maybe it was time for Cindy to step aside from her own pursuits and start helping her with her career instead.”
The insider adds that, while Cindy’s friends are advising that she lets Kaia go it alone, so she’ll realise how good she’s got it, the ’90s icon is not ready to let her teenage daughter go out into the big, wide world by herself just yet. “Cindy truly only has Kaia’s best interests at heart,” says the source. ■
