TAYLOR’S NEW FEUD

It’s the White House VS the singer

-

Remember when Taylor Swift was all about blonde ringlets and songs about her bestie, Abigail? That Tay Swizzy is definitely no more. The singer got seriously political at the MTV VMAS last week, using her acceptance speech to slam President Trump’s administration and call for further LGBTQ rights.

The 29-year-old won Video Of The Year for You Need To Calm Down, which features LGBTQ stars and highlights

the Equality Act bill. In the video, Taylor urged fans to sign a petition to support legal protection for LGBTQ persons in public places, securing more than half a million signatures. From the stage, Taylor scolded the W hite House for ignoring it, telling fans, “You want a world where we’re all treated equally under the law, regardless of who we love, regardless of how we identify… [The petition] has five times the amount that it would need to warrant a response from the White House.” She then tapped an imaginary watch on her wrist. W hite House Deputy press secretary Judd Deere quickly responded, “The bill in its current form is filled with poison pills.”

The star has previously been criticised for refusing to confirm how she votes, with the “alt-right” even claiming Taylor as a Trump fan during his 2016 campaign. But in recent years she’s become increasingly vocal about politics, speaking out last week to confirm she is “pro-choice”, adding, “We’re a democracy – at least, we’re supposed to be – where you’re allowed to disagree, dissent, debate. I really think that [Trump] thinks this is an autocracy.” Does this count as a celeb feud? n
