Laura Whitmore flashes her Celebrity Passport
Do you have a trip that changed your life?
When I was kid in Ireland, I came over to London and I remember going to Camden and saying that I loved it and that I wanted to live here one day. I’ve lived in London for 11 years now.
Where’s the coolest place you’ve stayed?
A few years ago, I went to a music festival in Hong Kong and then to Bali afterwards. I stayed in a place in Ubud called Como Shambhala Estate. It was beautiful and if you’re into yoga, it’s such a great place.
What’s your duty-free haul?
I always pick up a Toblerone, and I don’t think I’ve ever bought one anywhere else other than the airport.
What’s your money-saving travel tip?
Shop around. I was working in LA recently, and visited a friend last minute in Las Vegas. I booked a flight for £10 and got a room at Caesars Palace for about $40.
Weirdest souvenir you’ve picked up?
I collect Christmas decorations, which does get a bit weird if it’s, like, May. We have so many decorations at home and none of them match.
What three things do you always pack in your suitcase?
A decent SPF, I’m Irish so I have fair skin. Mosquito repellent for sure. When I was in Nepal with Unicef, I had 50 bites and we were joining dots to dots on my skin. I never pack enough underwear and I miscount how many days I’m going for.
What’s the weirdest thing you’ve put in your mouth?
I ate alligator in New Orleans while I was filming behind the scenes on Jurassic Park – it was very chewy and deep fried. If you go to New Orleans, everything is deep fried and just tastes like batter. That’s the first and last time I’ll eat alligator. ■ Laura is working with Virgin Money, whose recent research found 23-38 year olds feel “in control” of their finances
