Could Victoria and David Beckham be looking at their last Christmas together?
This Christmas could be make-or-break for the couple
They’ve certainly had their ups and downs since getting together over 21 years ago, but as David and Victoria Beckham get ready for another family Christmas, we’re told things between the couple have hit a new low. Following on from their awkward appearance at the British Fashion Awards last week – where onlookers said they barely spoke to each other once inside, despite their show of unity on the red carpet – insiders close to the couple tell heat that things are extremely tense after a tough 18 months, and that Victoria is doing everything she can this festive season to pull them back from the brink. “To say this past year has been difficult would be an understatement and, while things are still not great between them, they’re keen to use this Christmas to try to sort things out,” our source says. “They’ve spent a lot of time apart due to work and family commitments and Victoria, especially, wants to use this time to work on their issues and reconnect once more. People have been speculating that their marriage is hanging by a thread, and if things carry on like this, then this could be their last Christmas as a couple. But Vic is determined that won’t happen, although she knows it won’t be easy.
“She’s pulling out all the stops – she’s had their Cotswolds home professionally decorated, and she wants them to go away as a family to a luxury resort somewhere hot for New Year. She is keen to start 2019 as she means to go on.”
With all four of their children – Brooklyn, 19, Romeo, 16, Cruz, 13, and seven-year-old Harper – at home with them for Christmas, we’re told they want
to make it as fun and happy as possible for them. “Whatever Victoria and David are going through, their children always come first and they want to make sure they have a great Christmas,” adds the source. “The times they get to spend together as a family are becoming increasingly rare, so they don’t want anything to ruin that. David loves it when he has all the kids around him and he loves spoiling them, especially Harper. She still gets excited about Christmas and leaving a mince pie out for Santa, and they all love indulging her and making it as exciting as possible for her.
“It would break both David and Victoria’s hearts if they couldn’t spend Christmas as a family in the future, but they know they have a lot of work to do. W ho knows what the future holds if they can’t work it out? But they’re both trying to put all the drama and tension of the past few months behind them.”
Last week, David, 43, and Victoria, 44, attended the British Fashion Awards with eldest son Brooklyn. It was their first red-carpet appearance together since August, and like then, many fans noted how tense things looked between them. As they posed together, Posh had her arm draped over her husband and looked lovingly at him, while he kept his hand in his pocket and looked away. She also tried to grab his hand at one point, which he appeared to only reluctantly give to her. It was a similar situation when they attended the royal wedding in May – Vic reached for David’s hand and he left her hanging for a while. And once inside the venue, onlookers noticed how frosty things were between them. Reports claimed that, while they sat together at dinner, they barely spoke to each other at the after-party, with David preferring to hang around with his good friend Dave Gardner, as well as chatting to Rita Ora.

ceremony, but moved apart at the after-party,” one guest said. “They were only seen briefly speaking to each other once in about 25 minutes before they left. They made an effort to look cosier when a crowd built around their table. He seemed quite charmed by Rita
and said they should work together.”
However, both Victoria and David were quick to post on Instagram about what a fantastic evening they had, and the insider adds that Vic is keen to show what a perfect time they’ll be having over Christmas. “She’s got so many activities and moments planned that will definitely be on social media,” we’re told. “This is how she built Brand Beckham and she doesn’t plan on stopping. David is less keen – he doesn’t think they should be pretending their home life is perfect. But they have both agreed to try and make this a great Christmas.”
But even if they do get back on track over the festive period, they are facing a difficult 2019. David will be spending more time away from the family as he launches his football team in Miami, and our insider says that Vic can’t help but feel a little jealous when he’s over there, adding, “She says he often treats it like a lads’ holiday.”
Earlier this month, pictures emerged of David chatting to two women in Miami, while Dave Gardner tried to shield him from photographers. And the source says things like this don’t help. “Vic knows it was all innocent, but it doesn’t look good,” we’re told. “She worries about David being there all the time and the type of women he attracts. Obviously, she trusts him, but pictures like that just make her more determined to show him what a great life they have.”
They insider continues, “They’re celebrating their 20th wedding anniversary next July, and Vic wants to do something big and make a statement, but David isn’t so sure – he says if they’re not in a great place, it would feel wrong doing something extravagant. But Vic thinks this time together can help them. She wants to get back to how they were a few years ago, so they can really celebrate in style. But they both know it’s going to take more than a couple of weeks to sort it out.” ■
