Love Island’s Jack and Dani bicker their merry way through our exclusive interview
Jani’s first and last Christmas together? Kay Ribeiro meets the on-off-on again Love Island duo
In the history of Christmas heat interviews, none has been more of an emotional roller coaster than this one, with Love Island golden couple Jack Fincham, 26, and Dani Dyer, 22. When we meet them on a Wednesday morning for our ’50sinspired shoot, they’re on good form, happily chatting about their festive plans, taking the piss out of each other and talking about engagement rumours. Twenty four hours later, they’ve dramatically split, with Dani announcing on her Insta Stories, “Jack and I have sadly decided to part ways... Sadly we’ve come to the realisation that it’s not meant to be long term. We both plan to stay friends. I hope you’ll all understand.”
At the time, we didn’t understand, suddenly wondering if the bickering we thought was light-hearted banter was actually a sign of underlying tension in their super-accelerated six-month relationship, during which they’ve met, fallen in love, moved in together, got a dog and made a reality TV show about it.
Then, on Friday, Big Danny Dyer gave us hope, explaining on Jonathan Ross that his daughter was emotional and irate after a row with Jack and posted the message as “the ultimate way to punish him” – but immediately regretted it.
At the time of going to press, the couple are back on track, and had put the nano-split behind them, but we are none the wiser as to what tipped them over the edge. Was the pressure of living together at such a young age too much? Did they have the mother of all barneys after our shoot? Or was the saga of the broken iron the straw that broke Jani’s back (read on)...
So, where will you be spending Christmas this year? Jack: I’m going to my mum’s on Christmas Day, and you said you’d come round in the evening, didn’t you? dani: Yeah. J: Then, Boxing Day, I’m with you. You want to wake up in your own house with your family on Christmas Day, don’t you? d: Course you do. I love Christmas.
