Matt & Lily split – but is Claire to blame?

Rumours are rife that he’s got a new Foyfriend

- CHARLOTTE OLIVER

They’ve played lovers on stage and screen, but rumours that Matt Smith and Claire Foy are now more than just co-stars reached fever pitch last week, as the actor reportedly split from his girlfriend Lily James – and Claire was dragged into the drama.

According to reports, Matt has been turning to Claire for support as his five-year relationship with Lily soured. And after Lily and Matt were seen looking miserable during a tense pub lunch last week (the first time they were pictured together in four months), fans are convinced the couple are over for good.

Claire, 35, and Matt, 37, first grew close in 2016, when they starred opposite each other in The Crown. At the time, Matt was loved-up with Lily and Claire was married to actor Stephen Campbell Moore, with whom she shares four-year-old daughter Ivy. But since Claire split from Stephen in January, she and

Matt have been repeatedly spotted out together in north London, where they both live – sparking speculation that they’ve grown “increasingly close”.

As for Lily, 30, she’s stayed quiet on her and Matt’s relationship – as well as his friendship with Claire. But last week, during her pub lunch with Matt, the actress looked downcast, with onlookers reporting, “It clearly wasn’t a relaxed date.”

Their meeting came just one day after Lily self-partnered at both the British Film Awards and the British Fashion Awards, where she was seen leaving the after-party with actor Max Ianeselli. ■
