She’s charged with assaulting boyfriend Lewis

‘Lewis shouted, “I was normal until I met her”’

Caroline Flack was dramatically arrested and charged with “assault by beating” last week, following a fight at the home she shares with boyfriend Lewis Burton. The Love Island host was taken to a police station at around 5am after six patrol cars arrived at her north London address while a man, believed to be Lewis, was taken to hospital and treated for injuries.

“Caroline Flack, 40, of Islington was charged on Friday 13 December with assault by beating. She will appear on bail at Highbury Corner Magistrates’ Court on Monday 23 December,” a Met Police spokesperson said. “This follows an incident at approximately 05.25hrs on Thursday 12 December, after reports of a man being assaulted. He was not seriously injured.”

Speaking about the man’s injuries, London Ambulance Service revealed, “We were called yesterday [Thursday 12 December] at 5.28am to reports of a person unwell in Islington. We sent an ambulance to the scene and took a person to hospital.”

According to the law, if violence is used in common assault, it is called “battery” and the perpetrator would be charged with “assault by beating”. While this includes being beaten up, kicked or hit, it could also mean the victim was pushed, grabbed or spat at.

An eyewitness who watched the drama unfold claimed they heard Lewis, 27, shout out as police escorted him out of the house, “Bruv, I was normal until I met her.” Another neighbour alleged, “There have been police outside since 5.30am and

[Caroline’s boyfriend] Lewis Burton has been taken away. There were six police cars, including a van. I thought a criminal had escaped, but then saw them running into her house. They were in there for over two hours.” The eyewitnesses went on to say that there was still a police car outside the address at 8pm the following evening.

Caroline’s spokesman told heat, “We confirm that police attended Caroline’s home following a private domestic incident. She is co-operating with the appropriate people to resolve matters. We will not be making any further comment for legal reasons.”

Caroline began dating Lewis in August after they were introduced by mutual friends. They hit it off straight away and soon became regulars on each other’s Instagram feeds. Recently, there were reports that they were on the verge of getting engaged. Caroline has always been quite open about her love life, and although she’s had her fair share of heartbreak, says she hasn’t been put off love.

“Even though I’ve had ups and downs in my love life, I still adore love,” she told heat earlier this year. “Nothing is going to last forever, but sometimes it might. You just learn to… I don’t know, love love.” ■
