Wedding wars for Taylor & Emma
Don’t get in the way of these bridezillas
They were once, like, totally BFFS, but now Emma Stone and Taylor Swift are heading for a head-to-head bridal battle. An insider close to the A-listers tells heat that with Emma announcing her engagement to writer Dave Mccary, and Taylor planning on tying the knot with actor Joe Alwyn next year – even though the pair are yet to get engaged – the women are “set to race each other to the altar”. While Emma, 31, and Taylor, 30, once seemed to be joined at the hip, it has been years since the pair have been spotted hanging out. And now any chance of them being besties again may have walked out the door as their wedding planners walked in. “Emma and Taylor have both said they’d like to get married next year – which means they’ve suddenly found themselves at war over planning their weddings,” an insider tells heat. “Taylor got wind that Emma had sent out a few early invites to some of their mutual celebrity friends, and it immediately triggered her into speeding things up with her own plans.”
Apparently, Taylor feels she has first dibs on the show-stopping wedding. “As she and Joe have been together longer, Taylor feels that it’s her who should get married first,” we’re told. “But, at the moment, in terms of planning and making decisions,
Emma seems to be way ahead.”
Oscar-winner Emma has been dating Saturday Night Live writer Dave for two years, while Taylor is thought to have first started dating Joe in 2016. There have even been reports that it was Emma who played matchmaker for the couple, as she starred alongside Joe in The Favourite. Emma and Taylor go way back, having met in 2008. Taylor once even referred to Emma as being “like a sister” to her. But we’re told it is this (former) close friendship that is causing the issues.
“The problem is they share a lot of mutual friends like Jennifer Lawrence, Selena Gomez, and most of Taylor’s old ‘squad’,” says the source. “Tay is worried some people won’t come if the dates are too close together.”
And if there’s anything that’s going to dismantle an already patchy friendship, it’s a full-on bridezilla war. “Their friendship went through a rocky patch for a few years, but they made up last year,” adds the source. “Now it could all blow up again as Emma doesn’t feel she should change anything about her wedding plans – she’s not sure if Taylor and Joe are definitely going to get married yet, so she doesn’t see why she should wait.”
