She’s been queen of the WAGS for over half her life, but in the past couple of years, Coleen Rooney has seen her crown slip, thanks to husband Wayne falling down the football pecking order and high-profile problems in their marriage. But with Wayne proving himself on the pitch once again, his 33-yearold wife thinks it’s time for her to make her comeback.
“Coleen took a back seat career-wise for a couple of years after [fourth son] Cass was born and with the family moving to America,” our Rooney insider says. “But now they’re settled back in the UK and Wayne is enjoying playing football in England again, Coleen is keen to kick-start her media career and prove she still has what it takes to be queen of the WAGS. She wants to do more sponsored Insta-posts, work with big brands and show off her life as a busy mum and a woman who still likes to have fun.”
Even though Wayne is playing at a lower level with Championship club Derby County, his return to England was hugely anticipated, and he’s already made an impact both on and off the field after becoming club captain as well as player-coach. At the height of his career, when he was playing for Manchester United and England, Coleen – alongside Victoria Beckham – enjoyed top WAG status. She was inundated with work offers and was often out on the party circuit. She’s now the only high-profile WAG left from the 2006 World Cup summer in Baden Baden, Germany, and although her life has changed since she had her children, the source says she wants to make sure she makes the most of her status, while she still can.
“Coleen knows that soon Wayne will retire from playing to focus on coaching, and she’ll become a different kind of WAG, so she’s keen to cash in on and take up any work opportunities that arise. Brands would love to sign her up,” we’re told. “She’s also sick of seeing [her WAG rival] Becky Vardy getting more and more press attention since their big fallout, showing off her happy life with her baby. Coleen wants to prove that she’s not done yet.” n
