Chris ruins Jesy’s big night
He definitely slept on the sofa that night
It should have been a fairy-tale night for Jesy Nelson. After slaying the red carpet in a custom-made gown, she was thrilled to win an award for her deeply personal documentary, Odd One Out, in which she opened up about the shocking effects online abuse had on her mental health. However, the night took a turn for the worse when her boyfriend of a year, Chris Hughes, was involved in a violent altercation. Jesy received the award for Best Factual Programme earlier in the night, and even thanked her ex-love Islander beau for making her feel more confident in herself. But the couple were later seen engaged in what looked like a tense conversation after the glitzy awards bash, just moments before Chris was filmed fighting with a member of the paparazzi outside.
The 27 year old defended his actions on Instagram, writing “After coming out of our hotel a particular paparazzi decided to repeatedly call me a name I wouldn’t call my worst enemy, and physically try and start an altercation,” adding, “As everyone can I see I retaliated back badly to this which I totally regret.”
Chris was also apologetic for distracting from Jesy’s achievement. He wrote, “This night was about Jesy’s win and I am sorry if I distracted anyone from this. Ultimately, I’m the proudest boyfriend ever and want to congratulate my amazing girlfriend for a deserving win.”
The incident is being investigated by the police, after complaints were made of criminal damage to photographic equipment. ■
