DOI’S over – but she’s still skating on thin ice
Another day, another Dancing On Ice scandal. This time, the drama’s focused on Maura Higgins, and her much-discussed “friendship” with former skating partner Alex Demetriou, amid rumours that his marriage is on the rocks.
Throughout the series, it was continually reported that Alex’s wife Carlotta Edwards – who is also a professional skater on the show – was “terribly jealous” of his growing friendship with Maura. Then, ahead of the series finale last week, a source revealed, “Alex and Carlotta haven’t been happy together in months… Alex is besotted [with Maura], and feels she is much better for him than Carlotta. Their marriage seems to be broken beyond repair.”
As the whole cast reunited last week for the final show, Maura and Carlotta kept their distance from one another – while Alex showed off his ringless finger as he hugged his celebrity partner. Sources later claimed that producers had gone out of their way to keep Maura and Carlotta apart to avoid any drama. Maura, for her part, has stayed silent on the matter – but the awkward timing of events has only fuelled rumours further. It’s only been weeks since the former Love Islander announced her break-up from Curtis Pritchard, claiming, “There’s no bad feeling on either side,” and that they’d “tried to make it work, but it wasn’t to be”.
Strictly bosses must be loving life right now – the infamous curse is small-fry compared to those drama-loving skaters. ■
