Basic bitch your skincare routine

It’s time to spring clean your routine

-

With an endless array of lotions and potions on the market, it’s no wonder we can sometimes overcomplicate our skincare regime and overwhelm our complexion. Sometimes, our skin needs us to revert back to what our mama taught us – the basic cleanse, tone and moisturise. After all, it’s a mantra for a reason.

CLEANSE

Generally, complexions fall into three categories – dry, oily or combination. Dry types should seek out cleansers containing fatty acids – or ceramides – as they have hydrating properties. Oily complexions should avoid rich products, instead seeking ingredients like mint, which can help keep excess oil at bay. For combination babes –often oiler at the T-zone and dryer elsewhere – balance ph levels with grape extract. Massage in cleanser for a few minutes before rinsing to thoroughly remove grime.

TONE

The importance of a good toner shouldn’t be underestimated. Not only does it ensure every last scrap of make-up is removed, but it also closes pores and removes dead skin cells. Hydrating toners are perfect for dry skin, refining and removing cells, while also providing a much-needed layer of moisture. A retinol-infused toner is amazing for oilier faces, helping to brighten and tone, as well as calming blemishes and breakouts. If you’ve got combination skin, it’s a balancing toner for you. We love Elemis’, which is bursting with calming lavender. Apply onto a cotton pad, then sweep over tired complexions to revive and rejuvenate, and your skin will be on the path to radiance.
