Coleen: ‘Now Wayne gets to see how hard it is’

The WAG has shown her husband that it’s not all fun

- KATIE HOLLOWAY

We always knew that Coleen Rooney was one of the most down-to-earth and relatable celebs around, and many of us can definitely feel her pain when it comes to having our significant others under our feet all the time during corona shutdown. But we hear she’s also secretly pleased that Wayne can see how hard it is to be a stay-at-home parent.

“Coleen has always felt that Wayne thought she had a bit of an easy ride at home, so she likes that he’s getting a taste of daily life for her – and how bloody hard it is,” our insider says. “She’s used to having an outlet – gym classes and social engagements with friends – but without those, she’s feeling a bit down. It’s been hard work and even harder dealing with the reality of having Wayne around all the time. Wayne is a great dad, but it’s still like dealing with five kids with all the day to day stuff. Her parents often used to help out with the boys, but obviously that can’t happen at the moment.”

With four boys in the house – Kai, ten, Klay, six, Kit, four, and two-year-old Cass – Wayne and Coleen have no small task on their hands, although our source tells us Coleen is aware that they have it a lot easier than most. Our insider adds, “It is always a riot at their house with four young and highly energetic boys, but Coleen knows they’re incredibly lucky to live in a home with a pool, huge grounds and every toy imaginable – as well as each other – to play with.”

It’s no secret that Wayne and Coleen, both 34, have been through many ups and downs during their marriage and, despite being together since they were 16, this has been the longest amount of time they’ve ever spent together on a daily basis. “Their marriage has really benefited from them both having their own lives and being so busy with their own interests and friends – and that’s being put to the test right now,” we’re told. “They’re getting on really well most of the time and are in a good place, but being together 24/7 means the inevitable squabbles, like most couples. Coleen is so used to Wayne going out to training, giving her a bit of space. She likes being able to do her own thing and this is testing them. They only really spend time like this on holiday, which is a different, stress-free atmosphere.”

And, just like many other parents who are coming to grips with suddenly becoming teachers, we’re told Coleen is in charge of the home schooling and is making sure Wayne does his bit, which he is doing on the whole. “Coleen does all the scheduling and lesson

planning and tells Wayne how he can help. He jokes that he wasn’t good enough at school to be teaching, but she’s not having any of it – she says he’s not wriggling out of it that way!”

The source continues, “This is Wayne’s nightmare. He’s always seen his role as earning money to fund their luxury lifestyle and being around for fun family time. But Coleen is now making sure he does breakfasts, lunches, laundry, tidying up toys, playing football with the boys and helping out with their education.” ■
