Ferne: ‘Nanny Gilly’s moved in with us!’

The reality star on lockdown, living with mum, and her new man

-

She hasn’t had much time to herself in well over two years, ever since giving birth to daughter Sunday and learning to play the role of both mum AND dad in their happy home of two. But, luckily for Ferne Mccann, 29, she’s got an extra set of hands to help her out during quarantine – because mum (and breakout star of Ferne’s reality series First Time Mum) Gilly Mccann has moved in. Speaking to heat from lockdown, Ferne explains how they’re adapting to their new normal, and tells us why –although she’d love to publicly gush about her new boyfriend, city trader Albie Gibbs – she’s having to keep some things private.

How are you all holding up under lockdown? It’s just me, my mum and Sunday, and we’re just trying our best. It’s all so full of uncertainty, isn’t it? We’ve been getting really creative – getting outdoors in the garden, making mud pies, playing with cardboard boxes… you name it, we do it. It’s a lot to adjust to, but we just have to be responsible. Is it nice having three generations under one roof? Well, I don’t know how my mum feels about it – she’s currently downstairs with Sunday, who’s probably pulling her hair out – but it’s nice for me! We both went on a run this morning, we took it in turns, which I’ve never been able to do ever. It’s just nice to be back with Nanny Gilly, and to have her doing the cooking, washing and helping out. You’ve just bought a new house – are you a domestic goddess? Shall I be honest? I’m really bad at housework. When Mrs Hinch first got famous, I was well into it – I got all the cleaning products – but I’m just not a domestic goddess. I love to cook, but cleaning? I’m just no good. But I think it’s skipped a generation, my mum is amazing and so is Sunday. We’ll come home and she’ll take her shoes off and line them up neatly, whereas I’m kicking mine off. How much of your new relationship will we be seeing in First Time Mum? You’ll see parts of it, which is cool, because I’ve not had a serious relationship in forever! It’s about time. I think a lot of people have been rooting for me. But my boyfriend doesn’t want to be in the public eye and I have to respect that. In a way, I actually find it really attractive. It’s been nice to keep it between us. But then, of course, I’ve got a reality show about my life, so I do talk about it. When good things happen in my life, I automatically go straight to Instagram, so I’ve really had to hold myself back. ■ CHARLOTTE OLIVER
