DANNY DYER’S WIFE: ‘I’VE NEVER BEEN IN LOVE’

Jo Mas has a new take on romance

-

Newsflash: we’ve got this whole “soul mates” thing wrong. We were under the impression that love, commitment and a shared sense of humour were the cornerstones of a relationship. But according to Joanne Mas – who’s been with actor Danny Dyer for over 25 years – you don’t need any of that to live happily ever after. Last week, in a live Instagram Q+A, she told fans she’d “probably never” been in love and couldn’t remember the last time she’d laughed. Let’s hope that Joanne shares her husband’s cheeky sense of humour.

“Have I ever been in love? Probably not,” Jo, 43, deadpanned. “Do I believe in myself ? Of course… Good job I do, because no one else does. When was the last time I laughed? I don’t really laugh.” Immediately, Joanne’s comments sent fans into a frenzy of worry about her heartbreak – despite sources close to the pair insisting that it was banter. And although insiders have since said that the couple are “better than ever”, it’s still shone another spotlight on their famously rocky romance.

Danny and Jo first met as 14 year olds and went on to have three children – Love Island star Dani, 23, daughter Sunnie, 12, and seven-year-old son Arty. Their relationship has been rocked over the years by Danny’s alleged affairs. They married in 2016, but briefly split the following year after it was reported that Danny had a six-week affair with Girls Aloud singer Sarah Harding in 2012 (Sarah has said she thought Danny was single at the time). It was also reported on another occasion that he had sent lewd messages and photos to a fan just nine weeks before their wedding.

Danny, 42, temporarily moved out of the family home, but the pair reunited – and sources say he’s now a changed man.

Danny himself has publicly spoken about his affairs, saying in 2015, “I thought the grass was greener, but it was horrible. I don’t want to go there again.” Three years later, he reaffirmed his commitment, saying, “Me and Jo are going to be together forever, absof**king-lutely. We’ve gone through a lot. I take full responsibility for most of our ups and downs. Most of the downs, really.”

But, last month, Jo revealed she and Danny were planning to renew their vows later this year, saying, “I just think we should, with all the shit I’ve had to deal with as a wife.” It doesn’t get more romantic than that. ■
