Wayne Rooney’s had to do a bit of making up to Coleen recently – about £100K’s worth

A £100,000 interiors spree would win us over as well

Let’s face it, when you’re Wayne Rooney, there’s always something you’re having to make amends for, and last week was no different. The former England captain recently found himself in hot water with wife Coleen after he caused anger with his ill-timed comments about footballers’ high wages and was given a police warning for breaking social-distancing rules. Now, heat has been told he is doing his best to get back in his long-suffering partner’s good books.

“Wayne is constantly trying to make it up to Coleen. That’s the way their relationship goes: he does something stupid, she gives him the silent treatment and then he has to make amends,” our insider says. “And this time is no different. Coleen knows that when Wayne’s bored, he gets frustrated and that’s when he takes risks. She’s trying to keep him busy with the boys and having as much family fun as possible. But she’s also got one eye on his phone, and is always asking who he’s talking to and what he’s up to.”

Wayne – who has sons Kai, ten, Klay, six, Kit, four, and two-year-old Cass with Coleen – hit the headlines when he spoke out about his opposition to footballers being asked to take pay cuts during the coronavirus pandemic, which upset a lot of people. He was then told off by police for flouting socialdistancing rules after he spoke to his ex-england teammate Kyle Walker when they bumped into each other during a walk on Prestbury golf course, which is near to their Cheshire homes. It was unfortunate timing as, days later, Kyle was accused of hosting a party for a friend and two sex workers, and given Wayne’s own history, Coleen was not happy.

But at least the footballer has a way of

making it up to Coleen. With the Rooneys due to move into their £20million mansion this year, Wayne, 34, is giving Coleen, also 34, free rein on the cost and decoration of the remainder of it – and we’re told she’s going to town with a girly area for her and her mates.

Our insider says, “Like many building projects, the build hasn’t gone as planned and they’ve had a multitude of things go wrong, plus the delay due to the pandemic, which they obviously understand. Coleen’s said she wants the place to be perfect before she sets foot inside.”

The source continues, “In terms of the interior design, it’s all Coleen – Wayne let her have it exactly how she wants. At first, she would ask him his opinion about stuff, but he’s not been very engaged for the most part, except when it came to the bar and party room, and all of his areas. But even then, Coleen was the one who commissioned the interior designer and oversaw it. She’s made sure she’s got some girly rooms, too, which reflect her style for when she has all her friends over for pamper sessions in the spa and to let their hair down. The extras have cost in the region of £100,000, but Wayne knows he has to stay in Coleen’s good books after all he’s done, so he’s happy to oblige.”

The insider adds, “Her rooms will be very fancy. She has a certain style – she favours dark colours and wants it to look like a five-star hotel. She wants it to be perfect.” ■
