LOVE ISLAND’S PAIGE

The Love Island winner on her life in the “real” world

- KATIE HOLLOWAY

In normal circumstances, the Love Island winners would probably have their diaries booked up until Christmas with fancy awards shows, glamorous parties, and plenty of mingling – but it’s been a little different for Paige Turley. Isolating in Scotland with boyfriend Finn Tapp, she tells us it’s similar to being on the show – minus the sunshine, bikinis and pool. We caught up with the 22 year old to find out how lockdown life is for the winter series winners.

How are you finding isolating together? So, Finn is maybe sometimes needing a bit of a nudge when it comes to the chores. He is really good at cooking, though. Well, I say really good – I can only really cook beans on toast, so he’s better. But when it comes to tidying up and stuff, I keep saying we’re going to have to have a colour-coded chart, just so we know exactly what we’re doing. But we’re learning. Have you been able to have any date nights? We have – we actually got a lovely hamper delivered with cheese and wine, so we got all dressed up and had a kind of date night. We had a candle on an iphone. We were like, “This is the best it’s going to get at the moment”. Apart from that we’ve had games nights and stuff . We can’t wait to get out again and have a real date.

Your ex-boyfriend, singer Lewis Capaldi, recently joked that you had called him “revolting” and “disgusting” – how did you react to that? I found it quite comical. That is Lewis to a tee – that’s his sense of humour. Also, I’ve never, ever said anything bad against him. I think that’s just Lewis’ humour, poking fun at himself.

It’s definitely not how you remember the break-up… Yeah. I think how it looks in black and white is not how he intended it to come across, either. Us Scottish, in general, we just have a very dry sense of humour and we’re sarcastic. But aye, that’s just kind of Lewis. So, it’s just friendly banter between you two? Yeah, definitely. I think because we got on so well, and we still get on well. We just wish each other the best. It would be strange for it to be anything but light-hearted. It’s still up in the air if Love Island will even happen this summer. What would you think about a UK edition? Obviously, it would be amazing for everybody at home to be able to watch good-looking people in the sun [at the moment] – but a Uk-based one would be different. The winter Love Island was different as well, so I’m sure they’d be able to make a good show from it. But it’s about people’s safety – as long as that is put first. And then whenever it comes, it comes.

‘Finn needs a nudge when it comes to the chores’

Last time we spoke to you, you hadn’t received your prize money… We’ve got it! Yay! Are you already planning what to spend it on? Literally, it is a case of us just kind of staring at it like, “When is it going to happen?” I recently purchased a Macbook, but that’s kind of been it. I’ll definitely have a shopping spree after this. Who is going to spend more? Finn – 100 per cent. He is a princess. Finn is going to have a ball. ■
