‘Girls Aloud is my LAST CHANCE’

The singer is having career woes

-

It was announced last week that Cheryl’s talent show The Greatest Dancer has been axed following two series of less-than-amazing viewing figures. Now, a source tells heat that the 36 year old is terrified it spells the end of her career. We’re told, “She’s been really upset and frustrated that, no matter how hard she works, it’s not enough. This news hit her on a lot of levels and it’s another failure, after her solo singles didn’t have the impact she would have liked. She’s still got loads of loyal fans, but she hates the idea that she’s no longer seen as that relevant.”

And with her gigs in the summer also cancelled due to the current coronavirus crisis, we’re told she’s determined to make the Girls Aloud reunion in 2022 work. “Cheryl enjoyed the new friends she made on The Greatest Dancer. But while everyone else is walking away a little bruised from the experience, they still have loads of work in the pipeline – she’s got nothing,” says our source. “Now she’s determined to make the Girls Aloud reunion happen, whatever it takes.” Last week, Chezza’s former bandmate Nadine Coyle – who recently confirmed that Cheryl had reached out to her – spoke about the girl band’s rumoured 20th-anniversary reunion. “There’s been loads of conversations and people are now getting in contact, like, ‘What do we do?’ It’s still early,” she said in an interview.

Our insider tells us that with her schedule looking pretty clear for the foreseeable future, Cheryl is thinking ahead. “While there is a lot of uncertainty about when music venues will even open again, Cheryl is doing some forward planning – even if the band got back into studio now, it would have been Christmas before they could perform together,” we’re told. “The reunion was discussed last year, and they were all in agreement that it should happen. Cheryl was the one holding back because of her busy schedule – now she’s the one pushing for it.”

In the meantime, Cheryl shouldn’t hang up her dancing shoes yet, as she has been tipped to appear on this year’s Strictly Come Dancing, following in the footsteps of bandmate and bestie Kimberley Walsh. That will keep us going until 2022 at least. ■
