‘Harriet plays a dangerous game’

What is Harriet’s reaction when she finds out the truth about Malone’s operation?

Harriet is furious. She detests corrupt police officers, and she’s angry because of the danger he has put her family in.

What does she do?

She decides that she can’t trust Will or Cain to stop Malone, so arranges to meet up with him herself. Harriet has to brave it out as Malone is potentially dangerous, so being on her own with him might not be such a good idea. She has to convince him she’s not scared of him.

That’s when she makes the call to the police and threatens to expose him.

What makes her decide to report him?

Threatening to grass him up is, she thinks, the only way that he’ll back off. Malone is involved with a gang and his exposure would be risky for him. So, she plays a dangerous game and calls the police, hoping that he’ll back off. I think it’s more hope than belief that he actually will.

Is Harriet scared of him?

I think she is worried about how far he is willing to go to get his own way and what damage he is prepared to inflict. She certainly wouldn’t show him she was frightened.

What happens when Harriet shares some harsh words with Will?

Will has yet again not been honest with Harriet, and she is angry and upset that he continues to lie to her. She’s given him so many chances.

Do you think Harriet and Will have a future?

It’s difficult to say at the moment. There is a lot of hurt and mistrust, neither of which are solid foundations for a relationship that had such a dodgy start. I’m not sure they will be able to paper over the cracks this time.
