‘She knows fatherhood will change Zayn’
We never thought we’d see the day that the majority of One Direction became dads, but with the news that Zayn Malik is expecting his first baby with Gigi Hadid, this is where we find ourselves.
Gigi, 25, is five months pregnant after rekindling her romance with Zayn, 27, last December. Gigi confirmed the news last week, saying, “We’re very excited, happy and grateful for everyone’s well wishes and support.” Now, an insider close to the model tells us that Gigi is hopeful the baby will help solidify her and Zayn’s relationship. “Gigi has been fairly upfront with friends that this is their band-aid baby,” says heat’s source. “She’s been really worried about Zayn for months and feels having a child will not only push him to grow up a bit, it may help some of his other issues.” However, it seems her friends aren’t so sure. “Some of them are worried this is only going to be more stress for Gigi – and that she is going to give up huge career opportunities,” we’re told.
Zayn and Gigi began dating in 2015, after meeting at a Victoria’s Secret party – confirming their relationship with a raunchy performance in the music video to Zayn’s Pillowtalk. The couple split in March 2018, but got back together later that summer before splitting again in early 2019. Zayn has been open about his battle with anxiety and his struggles with life in the spotlight, and while Gigi has always been hugely supportive of him, she’s a regular on the showbiz scene and loves to document her jet-set life on social media.
But our insider tells us that despite their rocky past, Gigi is sure that a baby is the right thing. “Gigi is adamant they’re doing what’s best for them and feels with the baby coming along, they’re in this relationship for the long haul. She’s told her friends that she knows fatherhood is going to change Zayn for the better.”
Last week, Gigi showed a hint of a baby bump in pictures she posted on Instagram for her 25th birthday. Eagle-eyed fans believe the birthday party – celebrated alongside Yolanda and sister Bella in quarantine – may have doubled up as a gender reveal party. Pink and blue ribbons, as well as a Baby Shark gift bag and another with the words “Hello Little One ” on it, seemed to give the game away, and reports say she is expecting a girl.
A few months ago, Gigi hinted that she might be ready to give up the catwalk for motherhood, saying, “As I get older, well, one day I’ll start a family, and I don’t know if I will always be modelling.” ■
