We speak to influencer Ama Godson on staying stylish 24/7
We quiz Ama Godson (AKA @amagodson_a) on style, working from home and staying motivated
How long have you been blogging for and how did you get started?
I was working in finance, but I’ve always loved fashion. I got into styling, which spiralled into blogging just under two years ago. Since then, I haven’t looked back.
How do you balance blogging with your day job?
I work as a stylist and a creative director for various companies with my husband. In terms of how I balance everything? Only God knows! [Laughs.] I make a conscious effort to be super-organised and I plan and structure my time meticulously – but a lot of it does get spent scrolling through Instagram. A habit that I’m trying to break.
What’s a typical day like?
My working days vary a lot – before lockdown, I could be going to factories for brands or going to the office. I also spend time shooting content for my blog, Instagram or Youtube, editing images – the list goes on.
What are your top tips to stay motivated during the current situation?
I work from home on a regular basis anyway, so this doesn’t feel too alien for me. The worst part of being in quarantine, though, is feeling like you haven’t achieved something new – whether that’s a new business venture, a skill or even finishing a book. I set out what I’m going to do and start ticking off goals – it makes me feel more positive. Also, giving yourself time to chill out and relax is important.
What’s your workingfrom-home style?
I like to get up and get dressed
‘If I’m in loungewear, the sofa always calls my name’
as if I’m actually in an office – if I’m in loungewear, the sofa will call my name and I’ll end up watching Netflix. I always like to wear blazers and shirts while I’m in work mode, with my hair and make-up done.
What’s your home work space like?
Having too many things on my desk gives me a cluttered mind, so my space is very, very minimal. I do like to have inspirational books or quotes around, though – they help to get me through the day.
How are you relaxing at the moment?
I love organising my wardrobes so they look regimented and slick. I fold all my clothes so they are neat and tidy. Folding gives me such a calm, relaxed energy. I always end up having a “try on” session, too.
Who inspires you?
Personally, my mother is my biggest inspiration. She moved from Ghana to London at the age of 25, and has definitely set the benchmark for achieving goals. Style-wise, I absolutely love Victoria Beckham – she is so classic, elegant and chic.
What’s your go-to feel-good outfit?
Any blazer look will always make me feel great. I can be wearing a simple lounge set underneath, but if I throw a blazer on top, I automatically feel put together. ■
