Ross and Rachel, Gavin and Stacey, Mark Wright and Lauren Goodger – when it comes to iconic TV romances, Essex’s original “It couple” are up there in the big leagues. And while their stormy relationship crashed and burned years ago, it still remains one of the biggest storylines in TOWIE history. In fact, last week, Lauren Goodger claimed “the whole f**king show was about my relationship”, and with the series’ ten-year anniversary special coming up, she’s not about to let anyone forget it. So what if Mark is refusing to film any scenes with her? She’ll just have to settle for the next best thing – having it out with her former in-laws.
“Lauren feels she’s got a score to settle,” says an insider close to the former couple, who dated on and off – and were even briefly engaged – for 11 years, before calling it quits in 2011. “If Mark is going to ignore their love story, then she’s going to amplify it. She wants to have an open conversation with his mum Carol and sister Jess about their relationship. Lauren’s got a lot to get off her chest – she’s saying that, if Mark doesn’t want to hear it, then she’s going to find someone else who will listen.”
As heat has told you, producers have been desperate to sign up both Mark and Lauren for TOWIE’S anniversary spin-off, but Mark – who’s happily married to Michelle Keegan – has made it clear he’ll only return if he and Lauren are kept away from each other. Bet Carol and Jess are wishing they had the same clauses added into their contracts... ■
