Thanks to mum Meghan, Archie’s brushing shoulders with lots of celebrity kids

Come on, Hollywood honchos, don’t you know who she is?

-

You probably won’t remember Meghan Markle as “passenger on a plane” in A Lot Like Love or her blink-and-you’ll-missit part in Horrible Bosses. While the actress did her fair share of instantly forgettable roles before finding actual fame as Rachel on Suits, now she’s a bona fide superstar, you’d think Hollywood bigwigs would be fighting over themselves to sign her up for their latest TV and film projects. And, according to insiders, no one believes this more than Meghan herself – who, we’re told, was expecting a pile of meaty roles to be served up on a platter when she and Prince Harry landed in Los Angeles. But, unfortunately, Meg hasn’t quite had the Oscar-worthy offers she was hoping for – and now she’s calling in favours to launch her into the big leagues.

“Meghan had really expected to have her pick of movie roles and other exciting offers, but it’s been a bit of an uphill battle,” says an insider close to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, who moved to LA two months ago with their one-year-old son Archie, just before the city went into lockdown. “It seems like some casting directors are afraid of the negativity surrounding her and Harry’s decision to quit the royal family. So far, she’s received offers to host her own daytime talk show, which she thinks would be ‘cringeworthy’, and she’s also been offered guest slots on a few minor dramas, sitcoms and reality shows. But she really feels that she can only lend her name to prestige projects, like she did when she narrated the Disney documentary Elephants.”

Before marrying Harry, Meghan was fairly well-known in TV and film, but she was yet to become a household name despite her success in Suits – but a lot can change in four years, and she’s now one of the most famous women in the world, with a royal husband and a passion for charity work.

‘It’s been a bit of an uphill battle’

As heat has previously told you, Meghan has been taking cautious steps towards fully resuming her showbiz career, after initially saying she was “transitioning” away from it when she and Harry got engaged in November 2017. Her voiceover work on Elephants was just the beginning, and now she wants to ramp up her Hollywood ambitions. But, according to our source, based on the jobs available, she’s feeling distinctly undervalued.

“Meg’s dream is to be nominated for an Oscar, and she feels she can balance that with her other humanitarian goals, like Angelina

Jolie has done in the past,” we’re told. “But she’s been taken aback by what has been presented to her. She’s hoping that it’s just because Hollywood’s still under lockdown, and that things will start to improve when everything is back to normal. She doesn’t intend to return to acting full-time, but she wants to prove that she’s still a credible performer, so she’s asked her director friend Tyler Perry to get her a meeting with Hollywood director David Fincher and other big names. The way she sees it, she and Harry need to do a lot more networking to make it happen.” ■
