Why Pete and Katie are clashing over their daughter
They’ve got very different plans for the almost-teenager
It’s no secret that, while they’re both loving parents, they have rather different approaches when it comes to looking after their children – with Peter Andre admitting that he’s a strict dad, and ex-wife Katie Price running a more relaxed house. And now that their younger daughter Princess is about to turn 13, we’re told that the former couple are at loggerheads again over how much they should be shielding her from the spotlight. According to insiders, Katie’s eager for Princess and her brother Junior, 14, to become social media superstars, while Pete is praying that they’ll choose schoolwork over selfies.
“Katie and Peter want very different things for Princess and Junior,” says an insider close to the former couple, who split in 2009 and have frequently disagreed over their two kids’ upbringing. “Katie is desperate for them to have their own reality show, whereas Pete has said he would be overjoyed if Princess picked a job in medicine [his wife Emily is a doctor]. Now that Princess is about to become a teenager, he and Katie both have really different views on what she should be doing. Katie thinks she’s ready to become a social media star and wants them to be a mum and daughter duo, as she knows how much Princess enjoys it.”
Last week, Katie – who’s also mum to Harvey, 18, Jett, six, and Bunny, five – posted a Tiktok video of herself and Princess strutting around her kitchen, with the almost-teenager pouting into the camera. In the past, Katie’s come under fire from critics for letting her eldest daughter wear make-up from a very young age and pose for glam selfies – as well as using her five kids to model her clothing ranges.
Pete, meanwhile, has been slightly more measured in how much he’s shared publicly. While Princess and Junior have featured on his social media, he and Emily keep their younger children – Amelia, six, and Theo, three – away from the public eye as much as possible. So, it’s no surprise that he and Katie have differing views when it comes to their children’s exposure – especially since he once joked that he wanted Princess to become a nun to avoid the stress of seeing her dating in the future.
“Pete still thinks of Princess as his little girl and he doesn’t want her to grow up,” we’re told. “It’s causing some tension, but at the end of the day, all he and Katie really want is for Princess to be happy.” ■
