Iain Stirling chats life without Love Island
‘I’ve not spent summer in the UK in five years’
While thousands of us have had to cancel holidays, Iain Stirling is used to spending his summer in Mallorca, watching beautiful people fall in love… or lust. But the velvet voice of Love Island tells us he’s quite enjoying the time at home with girlfriend Laura Whitmore. “I’ve not spent a summer in the UK for five years. I’ve never been in London in June/july ever, so it’s really lovely,” he says. “I miss the show, the team and getting to know the new cast, but there’s a nice feeling of spending the best months of the year in the place you call home.” And spending time at home has allowed Iain and Laura, 35 – who have been together for three years – to indulge in a new hobby: Tiktok. “Laura’s the project manager. She will devise the song, the dance, the concept, the costume,” Iain, 32, tells us. “I will then begrudgingly become part of it and do the dance and be a bit embarrassed and get annoyed that I’m doing it wrong. But the end result is always worth it. It’s a thing we never thought we’d find ourselves doing, but there you are.”
Mallorca aside, Iain – who was one of the hosts of last month’s esoccer Aid for Unicef – admits he can’t wait to be back in a pub. And what is he most looking forward to? “I’m looking forward to the beer cascading out, the droplets running down the side of the glass and that perfect head on the top. That first sip will be a thing of beauty.” n
