Baby boy for Dermot & Dee

If he’s anything like his dad, he’s going to be a right charmer

Just when we thought he couldn’t get any better, the nicest man in show business has just become a dad. Dermot O’leary and his wife Dee Koppang welcomed a baby boy last week. The new parents both posted a picture of a tiny babygro emblazoned with the words, “Koppang O’leary Productions 2020”. In the caption, they wrote, “Welcome to the world baby Koppang O’leary... We’re delighted to announce that we’ve had a baby! A little boy born on Tuesday 23rd June 2020 (Sankthansaften/midsummer for us Norwegians [Dee is from Norway]) at 8.19am, weighing in at 6lb 13oz. Enjoying the cuddles in the newborn bubble... cats yet to be 100% convinced. Lots of love, Dee & Dermot x.”

The couple’s celebrity friends came out in force to congratulate them. Daisy May Cooper wrote, “Congratulations you gorgeous family”, Mel C commented, “Big love to you all. Enjoy the bubble”, and Holly Willoughby wrote, “Love you both. Welcome to the world baby Koppang O’leary, can’t wait for snuggles”. Dermot, 47, and TV producer Dee, 41 – who got married in 2012, after dating for ten years – first announced they were expecting back in February. Soon after, Dee shared an emotional thanks to her Instagram followers, writing, “Just wanted to say thank you so so much for all the lovely messages about our news... It’s been a rocky road to get here, so I wanted to send lots of love to any of you who are on that journey. Hang on in there. Sending love.”

Five years ago, Dermot – who was pictured collecting his wife and new baby son from London’s exclusive private Portland Hospital last week – spoke about wanting children but admitted it wasn’t that simple. “I definitely want kids, but I’ve got a very busy wife with a very busy life,” he said in a 2015 interview. “I do want kids with my wife, but I want them when we both think it’s the right thing to happen. It’s not fair for me to say, ‘I want kids now’.”

Speaking out for a mental health campaign last month, Dee admitted, “Being pregnant during a worldwide pandemic has been incredibly strange, and rather isolating. And like everyone – not being able to see your family and friends has definitely taken its toll,” but she added, “The messages of support from strangers has been a total joy…”

And now with baby Koppang O’leary making his appearance, the messages of congratulations just keep rolling in.

Welcome to the world, little one! n
