It’s pretty much a given that any grand plans we had for 2020 have either been cancelled altogether or halted until next year, so you can’t blame Lisa Armstrong for assuming that her ex-husband’s next wedding would fall into one of those categories. But according to insiders, Lisa has had a rude awakening , as Ant Mcpartlin isn’t prepared to wait any longer when it comes to saying “I do” to girlfriend Anne-marie Corbett. Apparently, the TV presenter is going full steam ahead with his plans to marry Anne-marie this year – even though it means swapping their initial hopes of a big star-studded wedding for a smaller, intimate affair. And while Lisa’s been taking big strides in finally moving on from her painful divorce, we’re told that she’s not quite ready to face Ant’s impending nuptials.
As heat has previously told you, Ant’s been more than keen to marry his girlfriend of two years ever since his and Lisa’s divorce was finally granted in April. But with coronavirus derailing the world, he put any hopes of a celeb-filled wedding on hold, and was instead planning to set a date for a year or two. But, with social distancing looking likely for the foreseeable future, we’re told that Ant, 44, and Annemarie, 43, have been getting impatient, and have now decided to scrap the idea of a massive event and instead do something small, immediate and soon. And with Ant’s 45th birthday coming up in November, we’re told it’s the perfect opportunity for them to hold a double celebration.
“There’s no telling when they might have their big A-list wedding extravaganza, so they want to elope abroad instead,” says an insider close to Ant and Anne-marie, who live together in south-west London with her two daughters. “They’ve decided the perfect time for a wedding getaway would be on Ant’s birthday – just before filming starts on I’m A Celebrity. It would be a very small thing, just with immediate
family and Dec [Donnelly]. They have been looking at tropical locations where the social distancing rules are more relaxed, and where they and their guests could enjoy themselves in luxury.”
According to sources, Lisa – who recently told fans just how happy she was to be returning to work as a TV make-up artist – had been hoping that she’d have a bit more time on her side before seeing her ex-husband officially move on. As heat has reported, she’s been taking tentative steps into the dating world herself after joining celebrity dating app Raya, and had also been planning some serious post-divorce fun with friends, including a blowout holiday. But with her plans looking uncertain, we’re told she’s feeling a little wobbly – especially as she had hoped to be away on some lavish break when the dreaded day arrived.
“Lisa had heard rumours that Ant was planning a wedding, but she really didn’t think it would happen so soon after going through such a lengthy and costly divorce,” says the insider. “She’s previously said that she’d like to be out of the country when it happens, as she wants to avoid seeing any of it online and in the papers. But her friends are warning her that it could happen sooner rather than later and that she needs to prepare herself for it, especially if Ant goes through with a ceremony on his birthday. So, she’s now looking up holidays and is determined to get away with friends, as she really wants something to look forward to.” ■
