The Love Island winner releases her first single

‘Finn would love to duet – don’t give him ideas’

We may have all been stuck at home for the last few months, but Love Island 2020 winner Paige Turley has been busy. The 22 year old is releasing her first single – a cover of UK garage classic Movin’ Too Fast – this week and tells heat she has her own music in the works. And if you cast your mind back to the Love Island talent show, where we were treated to a blast of Paige’s pipes, you’ll know she’s serious about music. We chatted to the star about her singing career just weeks after she moved in with boyfriend Finn Tap…

What made you decide to release this track? We’ve obviously had a lot of time in lockdown, so I’ve been able to write a lot of original stuff, but the opportunity came to work with the House & Garage Orchestra. I had actually seen that they had collaborated with Robyn S and I had sung her song [Show Me Love] in the villa, so once the opportunity came up, I couldn’t say no! Is the plan to eventually release your own music? We’ve had a lot of time over the last few months to let everything that’s happened sink in – so there’s been lots to write about. It’s just a case of waiting til we’re able to get some time in the studio, but I think, in the long run, an album is the plan. Has Finn got used to you singing around the flat? Bless him, he’s actually like my number one fan. Every chance I get, I’m humming and he’s like, “Go on girl, sing it louder!” I think he would give me quite a run for my money to be fair – he’s not bad himself. Perhaps you could duet? He would love that. Don’t give him any ideas. Have you convinced him to get a puppy yet? He’s not really budging. I’m just going to grind him down, to be honest.

This is the guy who says he wants babies soon… Exactly! I keep saying to him, “How do you expect to have a child if you cannot have a dog?” You’ve just moved in together – do you think these past months have actually been positive for your relationship? We’ve actually had this conversation so many times. It’s just a case of, “Everything happens for a reason.” I think having that time together has brought us so much closer. It gave me time to look back and realise what had happened in the past six months, so it’s been nice to reflect. n

Paige Turley And The House & Garage Orchestra’s Movin’ Too Fast will be available to stream and download on Spotify and Apple Music from 17 July
