Will tells Jada: ‘You’ve made me a laughing stock’

Their tell-all chat has left him feeling seriously humiliated

- CHARLOTTE OLIVER

Our jaws dropped to the floor last week, after Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith sat down together for a very candid chat on her talk show in which they revealed that Jada did have a relationship with singer August Alsina four years ago – while she and Will were on an “indefinite” break. Opening up on Red Table Talk, the married pair said they’d decided to clear up all the rumours, after rapper August said in an interview that Will had given them his “blessing” at the time – leading to false speculation they were in an open marriage. Instead, they explained they’d been “amicably separated”, but have since got back together.

But while Will, 51, and Jada, 48, put on a united front in front of the cameras, saying they’d finally reached a place of “unconditional love”, we’re told that things aren’t looking so rosy behind the scenes. According to insiders, Will’s been left feeling “humiliated” by the tell-all chat, and is questioning all over again whether he really can make their 25-year marriage work.

“Will didn’t really want to go on Jada’s show, but he reluctantly agreed to it,” says an insider close to the couple, whose marriage has faced mounting scrutiny over the past few weeks, after August claimed he’d “devoted” himself to Jada “for years of my life”. Our source adds, “Will hoped it would put the rumours that he and Jada were in an open relationship to rest for good. But the trolling has been intense.”

It was certainly a bold move for the couple, whose partnership has consistently been seen as one of Hollywood’s strongest. Speaking on the show, they said their split four years ago had felt like it was permanent – with Will confessing, “I was done with your ass,” while Jada explained, “It had been so long since I felt good.”

They said they’re now stronger than ever – but according to our source, it’s not so simple. While Will had hoped the stunt would put the matter to rest, it’s only opened the floodgates further and he’s been left feeling exposed. “Ultimately, he feels embarrassed and emasculated by his wife,” we’re told. “This whole thing has really made him think seriously about a fresh start away from Jada.” ■
