Run like a pro with these virtual PTS

Nail your running goals using a virtual PT…

-

Everyone can run – it’s just putting one foot in front of the other, right? But if you want to really up your game, you should be thinking about getting yourself a virtual running coach – and fyi, these already exist right in your phone. Not only will you learn epic new skills and techniques to get you up and moving for longer, but it’ll get you off the sofa if you’re still avoiding the gym.

We spoke to Eastnine trainer Ania Gabb about why you should be downloading a running app before pounding the streets. She says, “During runs, your virtual coach will help you by advising you on the correct technique, what to focus on, the benefits of running, how to keep going without stopping and how to keep motivated. The main advantage of a virtual running coach is that you can run anywhere, any time.” If you’re a beginner, don’t worry – you won’t be gasping for breath straight away, as most apps break you in slowly, so before you know it, you’ll be signing yourself up for a marathon. “Many virtual running coaches tend to start by combining walking for two minutes then running for one minute,” Ania tells us. “The best thing to do is focus on the time you spend on your feet and building up your fitness. Your body needs to adapt to running, and a virtual coach will help you do this.”

If, like us, you started running during lockdown but hit a bit of a wall, you can still benefit from a virtual coach, too. Ania says, “If you’re a little more competitive, many running apps have virtual leader boards, so it’s a great way to keep track of your progress and create challenges with your friends.”

So, what are you waiting for? Lace up your trainers, open up your app and get going – your virtual coach is waiting, and there’s no better feeling than post- jogging smugness.
