INAL AW THE OUR?

- CHARLOTTE OLIVER

One commenter said it was yet another betrayal by the Sussexes, saying, “First Harry betrayed his family and now his mum,” while others weighed in, calling them “disrespectful” and asking, “Are there no depths this pair will not sink to?”

It’s certainly a turnaround from earlier this year, when it was reported that both princes were apparently furious to hear documentary makers were pitching a four-part series looking at Diana’s inner demons. They’ve always worked hard to protect her legacy and, instead of backing drama-filled biopics, have instead paid tribute to her with their continued charity work.

But now that Harry and Meghan are part of the Netflix family – after signing a reported $150million production deal with the streaming giant – his allegiances seem unclear. Obviously, he’s never endorsed

The Crown, but sources say his involvement with Netflix is enough to send William reeling. And the fact that it’s also planning to stream Diana The Musical before it debuts on Broadway next year only makes it worse.

Last week, we saw a hint of just how fractious relations have become between the couples, as the royal family took to social media to wish Prince Harry a happy birthday – and omitted Meghan from any pictures they posted. There’s no denying that Meghan’s entrance into royal life marked the beginning of Harry’s exit – and a photo posted to William and Kate’s social media account of the royal couple and Harry playfully running a race together harked back to times before he met Meghan. According to our source, William and Kate felt including Meghan in their well-wishes would have seemed

“disingenuous”. Our insider says,“they were happy to wish Harry a happy birthday, but it felt wrong to include Meghan, since things are not very friendly between them. There’s been a lot of anger and disbelief.”

It may seem incredible now, but it was only in 2018 that William, Kate, Harry and Meghan sat together at a charity launch and instantly became the emblem for a united and modern royal family. Back then, they were heralded as an awesome foursome, but the geographical and emotional distances between the two couples are now wider than ever – and William’s alleged upset over Harry’s commercially minded Netflix decision has only made that more apparent.

So, the big question remains: will they ever reconcile? According to our insider, they’re on shaky ground, but there is one person who might just be able to build a bridge. “Kate reached out to Harry a few weeks ago,” says our source, noting that the Duchess

‘Things are not very friendly. There’s been a lot of anger’

of Cambridge has been trying her best – despite the circumstances – to offer some support to Harry.

The insider continues, “They’ve been talking and it’s going well, but they still have a long way to go before any of the more serious issues are resolved. Harry always saw Kate as the sister he never had. Royal life may have not been for him, but he respects her role in the monarchy and believes that, if anyone is suitable to lead it into a modern era, it’s her. There’s still so much tension between the brothers, but Harry never had a problem with his sister-in-law. She and Meghan do have their own history [they reportedly don’t get along], but he still respects Kate and misses going to her for advice.” It’s still unclear as to whether Kate will actually help heal the rift between the princes, but whatever happens, we’re told Harry is thankful for a friend. He and Meghan may be riding high on the business front, but apparently he’s still feeling like a fish out of water.

As heat has told you, Californianative Meghan is leading the charge when it comes to their Hollywood dealings, and she’s more than relieved to be back home with mum Doria Ragland. And while Harry may be enjoying raising their son Archie, one, he’s left all his friends and family in the UK, and we’re told a recent visit from good friend Guy Pelly was too brief to cure the homesickness he’s reportedly feeling.

Since announcing their resignation as senior royals earlier this year, it’s always felt like Harry and Meghan have been turning their backs on the monarchy. It was they who moved away, severed ties and chose commercial opportunities over royal duties. But now that William is apparently so hurt, it really does feel pretty irreparable if things don’t take a drastic upturn. Last year, Harry optimistically claimed that, while he and William had good days and bad days, “[We] will always be brothers,” adding, “I love him dearly.”

Whether that’s enough remains to be seen. n
