Becky Vardy seemed to have the WAG war sewn up, but now Coleen Rooney’s managed to take it to extra time
Mrs Rooney is not taking this lying down
After announcing last week that she was taking part in the new series of Dancing On Ice, Rebekah Vardy appeared on national TV looking very confident as she vowed to clear her name in her legal battle with fellow WAG Coleen Rooney. But if we’ve learned anything over the past year, it’s never to underestimate Coleen. She wiped the smile off Becky’s face by filing bombshell court documents just days later, accusing her rival of “habitually” leaking stories to the press.
Last October, Coleen claimed that “Rebekah Vardy’s account” was responsible for passing on stories to The Sun about her after viewing them on Coleen’s private Instagram feed, which only Becky’s account could see.
In a blistering 55-page court document, her lawyers laid out the reasons why she believed Becky briefed journalists about her, and the lengths she went to to prove that it could only be Becky – or those close to her – who were responsible for leaking the information. She accuses her former friend of cultivating close relationships with journalists in order to increase her fame, and also claims Becky was The Sun On Sunday’s “Secret WAG” columnist, which stopped running soon after Coleen’s original accusations. The documents also included pictures of the three fake Instagram stories that Coleen used in her “Wagatha Christie” investigation, including one with a picture of the back of an airplane seat and the caption, “Let’s go and see what this gender selection is all about.” Each story only had one viewer – Becky’s account.
A spokesman for Coleen, 34, said, “Coleen has always been confident of her position, although she takes no pleasure in now having to set out in public court documents the reasons why. It remains a matter of deep regret to her that Rebekah seems determined to persist with court action despite Coleen’s offers of private mediation. Coleen believes the money being spent could be put to much better use in these times.”
Mum-of-five Becky, who is married to Leicester City striker Jamie, has always denied leaking stories and is suing Coleen for defamation. Speaking last week, the 38 year old said, “We tried to sort things out amicably, but it just didn’t work. I understand people

think it’s ridiculous, but what was I meant to do? I want to clear my name – I will do whatever that takes.”
It had been claimed that Coleen – who has four sons with husband Wayne – wanted to drop the case at the last minute, but she is clearly determined to have her day in court with Becky. Coleen’s solicitor summed up her feelings, saying, “Coleen’s defence makes clear why, from the outset, she has been entirely confident in her position. She remains surprised and disappointed at Mrs Vardy’s decision to initiate these proceedings, and to continue to pursue these matters through the courts. Coleen has always said that this could and should have been resolved face to face, without the need for court proceedings.”
