Pregnant Emily: ‘My baby can choose its gender’
Boy or girl, it’s going to be beautiful…
It would be a crime to have genes like that and not procreate, so – good news – no one needs to arrest Emily Ratajkowski. Last week, the model and actress revealed the lovely news that she is pregnant with her first baby, sharing a moving video and admitting she’s been “dreaming of you”. But if you’re hoping for one of those glitzy gender reveal parties, you’ll be waiting a long time. Emily confirmed that she and husband Sebastian Bear-mcclard will be holding out until their child is 18, and letting them decide their own gender.
In the intimate video – directed by actress Lena Dunham – the I Feel Pretty actress spoke directly to her baby bump, saying, “I cannot wait to see who you will be.” She went on to explain, “When my husband and I tell friends that I’m pregnant, their first question is almost always, ‘Do you know what you want?’ We like to respond that we won’t know the gender until our child is 18 and that they’ll let us know then.”
Emily, 29 – who married film producer Sebastian in 2018 – said they wanted to avoid “gender stereotypes”, and that it was “more complex than whatever genitalia our child might be born with”. The model added, “We ultimately have no idea who – rather than what – is growing inside my belly. Who will this person be? What kind of person will we become parents to?”
Celebrity friends rushed to send their congratulations. Gigi Hadid commented, “YAAYYYYY can’t wait.” While Hailey Bieber wrote, “Yayyyyyyyy.” Kourtney Kardashian offered a string of love hearts, while actress Priyanka Chopra said,“congratulations beautiful!!”
