MICHELLE: ‘I DON’T WANT TO BE A FOOTBALL WIDOW
As Mark is rumoured to be playing professionally again
If he hadn’t stumbled his way into the TOWIE cast all those years ago, Mark Wright might have been playing for the England football team by now. Well, we have no idea, but it’s safe to say football runs in the family – his brother Josh plays for Leyton Orient, and Mark himself was semi-pro before he went into TV. And, after rumours resurfaced last week that the 33 year old might be putting his boots back on, we’re told his wife Michelle isn’t quite so keen on the idea. Last week, the reality star was seen sitting in the stands at Crawley Town football club, dressed in the team’s tracksuit. Mark later told fans in a Youtube video that rumours he’d been signed were untrue, saying, “I love playing football, it’s my number one passion. Obviously, my career went in a different direction. The speculation is that I’m joining the Reds – it’s a bit far-fetched… I’m just doing it for fitness, I love being around it, the camaraderie, the banter around the dressing room.” But a source close to Mark and Michelle tells heat that he would jump at the chance if it were to happen. Unfortunately for him, though, Michelle, also 33, is worried she might get left behind. “Growing up, Michelle always thought how fun it would be to be a WAG, and her friends were convinced she would end up with a footballer and be the new Coleen Rooney,” our source reveals. “But Crawley aren’t exactly Man United. She knows this is a dream of Mark’s and will be thrilled for him if it happens, but she isn’t happy about being a football widow. She already loses him most weekends to watching matches and playing games with his friends.”
The couple have been married for five years, but spent a lot of that time apart while Mark worked as a TV presenter in LA, and Michelle travelled the world filming Our
Girl. And while the couple are now putting down firm roots in Essex – and are currently renovating their dream home – we’re told Michelle is anxious about being left alone again.
“It’s not like she can go and watch Mark play, as supporters aren’t allowed in stadiums at the moment,” says the insider. “Most of her friends and family are still up in Manchester, and while she loves it in Essex, she’s worried about being lonely. Mark has assured her it’ll be fine. He just can’t believe that he may be able to play football professionally.” n
