New image, new career: how Adele plans to launch herself in Hollywood

After wowing audiences with her first-ever hosting gig

-

For all of us Adele obsessives, we’ve been hanging on her every Instagram post, comment or like for the last year. While she may be an international bombshell and singer extraordinaire, she rarely posts on social media and keeps public outings to a minimum – with the occasional headline-grabbing social media post to keep us going.

So, seeing the 32 year old smash it as the host of US sketch show Saturday Night Live was an absolute treat. And while her performance was amazing, many viewers were transfixed by her super-slim figure – the first time she has properly shown it off since losing 98lbs. Adele herself even joked about her glamorous look, saying, “I know I look really, really different since you last saw me. But, actually, because of all the COVID restrictions and the travel bans, I had to travel light and only bring half of me, and this is the half I chose.”

Appearing in multiple sketches where she showcased her legendary singing voice, debuted an American accent, and laughed so much, she completely broke character, the new slimline Adele was a complete hit. And, watched by five million viewers in the US, her appearance was a triumph. One viewer called her “a treasure”, adding, “I loved every minute of her on screen. Her personality rippled volumes in every sketch.” Viewers called her “stunning”, and were keen to point out that she looked “beautiful”, “happy”, and “confident”.

The Grammy-award winner – who split from husband Simon Konecki, father of her eight-yearold son Angelo, in September 2019 – is believed to have lost around 7st in the last year and was clearly keen to show off her hard work during her TV appearance. And, we’re told, the weight loss is all part of her plan to take Holly wood by storm.

An insider tells us she was keen to show the world how proud she is of her new look. “Adele is being wooed by Hollywood movie bosses as a bona fide actress,” an insider tells heat. “There’s nobody in

Europe or America with a hotter rep right now, and while she’s been getting these offers for years, it’s hard to imagine her star getting any brighter, so the feeling is that she’d be wise to move now. While she lost weight for herself and her own happiness, she knows this more glamorous image is more appealing to Hollywood producers. She’s so happy with how she looks, and her Saturday Night Live appearance was the first proper public debut of her transformation. She’ll always be a north London girl, but this is her life now and she wants to make the most of it.”

Adele herself once joked about “those singers who start acting”, but after doing so well on SNL, it’s clear she’s not just another wannabe. “Adele ticks all the boxes in terms of what producers and casting agents are looking for right now,” our source says. “She has a huge fan base, tons of charisma, an infectiously positive energy and a fantastically witty and self-deprecating sense of humour that’s appealing to fans of all ages. The Brits who have failed in America over the years are the ones who take themselves too seriously, and that definitely can’t be said about Adele.”

The cinematic music video for Adele’s comeback single Hello in 2015 gave us a small glimpse of her potential as an actress. She even admitted she wanted to try her hand at acting after enjoying the experience so much, and the video’s director, Xavier

Dolan, fully supported her. “We got on set, and she would watch all the takes. I think she saw herself and understood she was quite a credible actor,” he said at the time. “I think she’s now saying it made her want to be an actress, which is making me so proud, because she was so reluctant to do anything close to acting in the first place.”

And it seems Hollywood has been waiting for the right time to pounce. “In the eyes of Hollywood, the fact that she’s been vocal about wanting to act makes working with her a win-win, so now it’s a race for her signature,” says our source. “She’s being chased by a number of big names, who are offering blank cheques to get her on board. The biggest A-listers can still command $25m or more for the right leading role, and Adele would easily get $5m, just for a cameo. She’s already impressed in the various TV appearances and music videos, and nobody doubts that she has the talent and screen presence to be a standout star in her own right.”

After hosting the show, she thanked the SNL team and audience on Instagram, writing, “I did it for the joy of it.” She also seemed to dismiss rumours of a romance with grime artist Skepta , adding, “I’m going back to my cave now to be the (single) cat lady that I am!” And with the singer also revealing on the show that she’s in the middle of writing her next album, it seems she’s in for a busy few months if she’s to start considering acting roles, too.

“Adele is loving this attention and she absolutely wants to move forward into acting,” our insider confirms. “But she doesn’t want to rush into anything, either. She needs to decide whether to kick things off doing TV, or dive straight into films – which is her ultimate aim. First, though, she’s meeting with an acting coach and figuring out the logistics of taking classes while lining up projects from 2021 onwards.”

The insider adds, “She intends to take full advantage of her celebrity status while it’s at its peak – and acting has always been a huge dream of hers. Winning an acting Oscar would be her ultimate fairy tale, without question.”
