‘Vic’s always come across well on TV’

Let’s face it, there’s not many of us who wouldn’t like to get a good inside look into the glamorous world of the Beckhams – and it now seems our wish is going to come true. David and Victoria are said to have signed a £16million deal with Netflix to share their never-before-seen home movies in a documentary about the former England captain’s life. It will feature intimate family video footage, and his marriage with Victoria will be charted from their early dating days, getting married, having kids and moving countries, as well as present day stuff.

“This is a real coup for Netflix, and will show a completely different side to David – one the public very rarely get to see,” a source said. “David’s family are all massive archivers – they’ve been proudly documenting his career since he was a boy and have kept all the old local newspaper cuttings, school records and team photos throughout the years. There’s even some classic camcorder footage from various birthdays, Christmases and special occasions, as well as some hilarious insights into David and Victoria’s early dates. Needless to say, David is bound to come off brilliantly, while viewers will get to see Victoria’s quick wit. A camera crew will also document David’s life now, following him around the globe as he fulfils various business ventures.”

The series is set to kick off with a scene of David, 45, playing

football in the back garden with his dad Ted, and will feature interviews and commentary from all the family, including his four children – Brooklyn, 21, Romeo, 18, Cruz, 15, and nine-year-old Harper. His celeb friends and teammates are also expected to contribute, including James Corden, Gary Neville and Cristiano Ronaldo.

But it’s his relationship with Victoria, 46, that will generate the most headlines, as this will be the first time they have allowed cameras to capture more intimate moments for many years. When they first began dating, and in the early years of their marriage, they appeared in many reality shows and would talk very openly about their marriage. Their last documentary together was 2003’s The Real Beckhams, which focused on their life in Spain after David signed for Real Madrid. Victoria did her own show Coming to America, when the family all moved to LA in 2007, but this will be the first time they have all been in one together.

As heat recently told you, Victoria was keen for the family to star in their own upmarket reality show, and she thinks this is perfect. However, she doesn’t want her marriage to come under any more scrutiny. “Victoria and David are in a good place right now after a rocky few years, and she doesn’t want anything to jeopardise that,” an insider says. “She wants the documentary to show how happy they are, and what a strong relationship they have with each other and their children. But she’s worried some of the old footage may bring up unhappy memories, like the time they spent in Spain, which she’s said was terrible for her.”

The insider adds, “She’s always come across well on TV, as people can see her sense of humour, and she’s hoping this one will do the same, as well as give a much-needed boost to Brand Beckham, after a testing few months in lockdown.” n
