Jesy takes a break from Little Mix, and fans worry that the band is splitting up for good

And now fans are worried the band is splitting up

-

After missing out on two major appearances recently, it has been announced that Little Mix member Jesy Nelson is taking a break from the girl band. In a statement, the group’s publicist said, “Jesy is having extended time off from Little Mix for private medical reasons.” The 29 year old had already pulled out of appearing on the final of the band’s own show, Little Mix: The Search, as well as the MTV EMAS – where the girls performed and hosted. At the time, a spokesman said that Jesy was “unwell”.

Fans took to social media to express their support for Jesy – who is currently dating actor Sean Sagar – as well as questioning what this means for the future of the girl group. There have been reports that the girls have been gearing up for a while to launch their own solo careers, with all of them looking to pursue their own individual music and TV projects. The group still have a tour scheduled in for April 2021, and a source claimed, “Even if that is delayed because of COVID, as is quite likely, they will still complete it. That will happen either with or without Jesy, who is taking some time out for as long as she feels she needs or wants to.”

Earlier this year, Jesy won a National TV Award for her deeply personal documentary, Jesy Nelson: Odd One Out, which saw the singer discussing how her mental health was hugely affected by vicious online abuse. Jesy’s bandmates – Perrie Edwards, Leigh-anne Pinnock and Jade Thirlwall – also appeared on The Jonathan Ross Show last week, and admitted they’d found pop-star life difficult. “I don’t think we expected it to be this hard,” Perrie explained. “When you’re young and think of being a pop star, you think, ‘Oh, I want everyone to love me and ask for my autograph...’ Then you get thrown into it, and you’re like, ‘Holy shitballs, it’s a lot’. We don’t rest, we don’t sleep. But we love success, so we’re willing to work for it, and it’s been an amazing ten years.”

We wish Jesy all the best. ■
