Pregnant Kate: ‘I feel like I’m letting everyone down’

The mum-to-be is putting even more pressure on herself

‘She is a natural worrier, even when there’s no need’

She normally prides herself on being the ultimate host and party planner, who enjoys nothing more than spoiling the people she loves with thoughtful gifts and special surprises. But now that Kate Ferdinand is in the final stages of pregnancy (she’s believed to be due later this month), she’s understandably feeling less productive than usual.

In fact, she said in a recent interview, “Some days, I can’t walk very well, or I can’t cook or stand up.” But while most mums-to-be at this stage would be happy to just relax, we’re told Kate is instead getting herself in a right old panic about how the upcoming birth of her and husband Rio’s baby boy is going to affect the rest of the family – especially her three stepkids, Lorenz, 14, Tate, 12, and nine-year-old Tia. In the past, Kate’s pulled out all the stops over the festive period, but this year, something’s got to give. And we’re told she’s convinced she’s “letting everyone down” in the process. “Kate is naturally a worrier, even when there’s no need to be, and the prospect of giving birth before Christmas is really sending her into a panic,” says an insider close to the 29 year old, who last year festooned the family home with more decorations than a Christmas shop’s window display, and surprised her stepdaughter Tia with a life-size Elf On The Shelf (below). “Kate hates the idea of the focus being just on her and everyone being on tenterhooks waiting for the baby’s arrival, and she’s worried about not being able to put on the perfect Christmas. She wanted it to be all about the kids, and she’s now wondering if they’ll feel put out.”

Last month, Kate said in an interview that she’s “a bit of a worrier”, and has been getting herself flustered thinking about how a newborn baby will impact their family life. “It’s quite a busy household as it is – we’ve got a lot going on,” she said. “There’s a lot of horse riding, football, everything. So, it makes me a little bit nervous – having a baby and how he’s going to fit in.”

According to our source, the star has a habit of being “extremely self-critical and overthinking everything” – and that’s gone into overdrive during her third trimester. “Her friends are advising her to hire an assistant,” says the insider, who adds, “She’s seriously thinking about it, as it would really help in terms of her being able to organise a special day for everyone, while also doting on her newborn. But she doesn’t want to be seen as the lady of the manor, barking orders at someone.”

And there we were thinking it’s an expectant mum’s prerogative to bark orders at everyone. n
