Ant on his proposal: ‘I’m a romantic at heart’
Spoiler alert: it was all so very, very lovely
He proudly announced his engagement on New Year’s Day, telling the world that his proposal had taken place “on Christmas Eve in a very romantic setting”. And now, Ant Mcpartlin’s dropped a few extra details about how he popped the question to his fiancée – and former PA – Anne-marie Corbett. Speaking in an interview alongside best bud Declan Donnelly last week, Ant, 45, revealed, “It was a lovely way to end the year. I’m a romantic at heart. You know, there were flowers and afternoon tea in front of the Christmas tree. Lovely. It was lovely.” But was it lovely, Ant?
The telly presenter’s engagement comes three years after his split from ex-wife Lisa Armstrong, 44 – and less than a year since their acrimonious divorce was finalised. In the period since his marriage ended, Ant’s often paid tribute to Anne-marie – who he’s dubbed Amzie – calling her his “rock” and “a beautiful soul”. He also said last year his “happy place is at home with my girlfriend”. The couple live in south-west London with Anne-marie’s two teenage daughters, as well as their Maltipoos Milo and Bumble, while Ant shares custody of Labrador Hurley with his ex.
Speaking to Digital Spy last week, Ant quashed speculation that he and Anne-marie have already scheduled their nuptials – despite it being rumoured that they’re planning a big, showbiz wedding abroad in 2022 – adding that Dec is still in the running to be his best man. Dec previously did the honours when Ant and Lisa wed in 2006, while Ant returned the favour at Dec’s wedding to Ali Astall six years ago. He explained, “[Dec] was very good last time. He has been my best man. I’ve been his best man. But I suppose it depends on what kind of wedding we have. There have been no plans.” Still, Dec reminded us – and himself – who would really be getting top billing on the big day, revealing, “I think it’s between me and the dog!”
Meanwhile, as Ant’s romantic confessions hit the headlines, fans sent their support to Lisa – who’s since moved on with her electrician boyfriend of six months James Green. And the TV make-up artist made it clear that she wasn’t rattled by her ex. Beaming in an Insta pic, Lisa excitedly debuted a new lipstick shade from her make-up range with Avon. The collection, which was released last year, has been a phenomenal success and has apparently given Lisa a massive boost during a trying year.
