THE NEW RULES THAT HELPED SAVE COLEEN’S MARRIAGE

And they include loved-up selfies with Wayne

‘She wanted to prove how strong they are’

Over the past few years, Coleen and Wayne Rooney haven’t exactly been famed for their over-the-top PDAS or having a rock-solid marriage. But, according to heat’s insider, there has been a big change at Casa Rooney. The couple appear to have put their issues behind them, and are enjoy spending time together with their four young sons, Kai, 11, Klay, seven, Kit, five, and three-year-old Cass.

They were keen to show this off on Valentine’s Day, with both of them posting loved-up snaps (Wayne’s was a recent one, while Coleen posted a holiday throwback from 2003) – and we’re hearing it’s all part of their new marriage rules. “Coleen is fed up with their marriage being seen as a bit of joke and she wanted to prove just how strong they are at the moment,” our source says. “By posting these pictures and declarations of love for each other, they’re showing that they’re over their problems. And Coleen’s throwback was a nice reminder of just how long they’ve been together – and that their relationship has seen it all and survived. There will definitely be more loved-up posts and happy family pics to come.” While many couples have struggled with the current lockdown, Wayne, 35, and Coleen, 34 – who started dating in 2002, and have been rocked by allegations of Wayne’s cheating, drunken behaviour and arrests – have used this time to work on their relationship.

“Coleen put her foot down this time and laid some ground rules, and it’s really worked for them,” our source says. “They seem to be back to the good old days. For once, they are both at home all the time – and spending some quality time together. There’s a lot of movie nights, family games nights, at-home date nights – and Wayne even does a boys’ night to give Coleen a break one evening a week. Life before was one big rush, it was non-stop with everything going on. It’s only now they’ve slowed down that they’ve realised it’s no wonder they were always rowing. They’re determined to stick to this new regime even when things go back to normal. Wayne says he will not be going out and partying like he used to and spending more time with his friends than his family.”

Wayne recently gave up playing football and is now manager of Derby County – and this is also helping his marriage. “It’s been a big transition for him and he’s been giving himself ‘career coaching’ to help him communicate better,” we’re told. “It’s a key skill for a manager, but it’s also benefited him at home – he’s more involved and engaged with everything.”
